Remote Position

Accounting Manager

🌍 Remote · United States 💼 Full-time

About QumulusAI: QumulusAI operates high-performance bare-metal GPU infrastructure at carrier-neutral exchange points, serving AI and ML customers — inference platforms, model developers, and compute aggregators — who buy on performance, price, and the credibility of our operations. We run our own network, our own fabrics across the latest Ethernet and InfiniBand, and our own control plane across multiple production datacenters. We build at hyperspeed. Rather than wait years for a greenfield campus to come online, we take existing datacenter capacity that is ready today and put it to work — deploying our own servers, network stack, storage, racks and PDUs, and turning a site up in 90 days. The model is distributed by design, and the long-term goal is to operate in more than a hundred locations. About the Role: We are hiring an Accounting Manager to own revenue accounting and help run a timely, accurate month-end close. Reporting to the Controller, this role is expected to assist in management of the close process and the accounting team as we scale. Our customers buy GPU capacity on multi-year commitments, with usage-based and volume-based billing on top. That makes revenue the most technical part of our books, and you will own it end to end: from reviewing a new contract and writing the accounting memo, to reconciling deferred revenue to the general ledger and supporting the numbers in our SEC filings. As a public company growing quickly, we need a close that is accurate, on time and built to scale. You will help build the processes that get us there. We are on a hyper-growth trajectory and need to be ready. What You'll Do: Revenue accounting Own revenue recognition under ASC 606, including contract review. Review new and modified customer contracts and document your accounting conclusions in technical memos. Prepare monthly revenue schedules, analytics and flux explanations for management. Partner with Sales on invoicing accuracy. Deferred revenue Maintain the deferred revenue waterfall and reconcile it to the general ledger each month. Track unbilled receivables, contract assets and contract liabilities in NetSuite ARM. Commissions Calculate monthly sales commissions in line with approved compensation plans. Capitalize and amortize contract acquisition costs under ASC 340-40. Reconcile commission accruals and prepaid commission balances and coordinate payouts with Payroll. General accounting Manage key parts of the month-end, quarter-end and year-end close, including journal entries, accruals and balance sheet reconciliations. Prepare reconciliations and supporting schedules for month-end and SEC filings. Account for and reconcile prepaid expenses, prepaid insurance and other accounts. Spot technical accounting issues in your areas and help research and resolve them. Your first 90 days: Days 1 to 30: learn our contracts, billing and close calendar. Take over the monthly revenue schedules and the deferred revenue reconciliation. Days 31 to 60: own revenue for a full month-end close. Review new contracts as they come in and write your first technical memos. Days 61 to 90: own commissions and ASC 340-40 amortization, support the quarter-end close, and propose your first process improvements. What We're Looking For: Bachelor's degree in Accounting. 5 to 8 years of progressive accounting experience, with a mix of public accounting and corporate roles. Strong working knowledge of US GAAP. Hands-on experience with a large ERP system. Advanced Excel skills: lookups, pivot tables, and building schedules and models. Detail-oriented, with a strong sense of ownership over accuracy and deadlines. Comfortable and effective working fully remote. Bonus points: Active CPA license, or actively pursuing licensure (strongly preferred). NetSuite experience, including the revenue module (ARM) (strongly preferred). SaaS, subscription, usage-based, volume-based or technology revenue models. High-growth and/or public company experience. Has supervised or mentored staff. Has used ORB for volume-based billing. Tools you'll use: NetSuite (including ARM), ORB, Excel and Microsoft 365. How you will know it is working: Revenue closes on the close calendar day 5, every month. The deferred revenue waterfall ties to the general ledger with no unexplained differences. Every new or modified contract has a documented accounting conclusion before it closes. Auditors find no revenue adjustments in your areas. Who thrives here: You take ownership of accuracy. A schedule is done when it ties, not when it is filled in. You look for ways to automate, standardize and scale, and you say so. You are comfortable when priorities shift in a fast-moving environment. You are collaborative, with sound judgment and high integrity. How we work with AI: AI tools are part of how we work here, and everyone is expected to use them daily: to draft, to check their own work and to move faster. The tool helps; you own the result. Nothing goes into our books or filings without a person reviewing it and standing behind it. Why QumulusAI: QumulusAI is building the next generation of AI infrastructure, and we are early enough that the decisions you make will still be how this company operates at a hundred sites.
