About the Role
HPE is seeking a Principal AI Engineer to design, develop, and deploy advanced artificial intelligence and machine learning solutions for its products and systems. This senior technical role focuses on applying machine learning, statistical modeling, deep learning, and data analysis to improve system performance, data quality, and operational efficiency. You will work with large-scale computing frameworks, data analysis systems, and modeling environments to transform technical requirements into production-ready solutions. In addition to hands-on engineering, you will provide technical leadership, guide design decisions, mentor engineers, and collaborate with cross-functional teams to align AI initiatives with customer needs and business objectives. This is a remote/teleworker position, primarily based at home.
Key Responsibilities
Design, develop, train, evaluate, and deploy advanced machine learning models and algorithms. Select appropriate modeling techniques, prepare and preprocess data, perform feature engineering, and assess model performance. Research emerging AI and machine learning technologies, conduct experiments, and identify opportunities to introduce innovative approaches. Design scalable, reliable, and high-performance AI system architectures using suitable algorithms, distributed computing frameworks, and cloud services. Collaborate with data scientists, software engineers, product managers, and other stakeholders to identify AI integration opportunities and translate requirements into technical solutions. Provide technical leadership across significant projects and programs, guiding engineering decisions and implementation strategies. Mentor junior engineers, review their work, share technical knowledge, and promote AI and machine learning best practices. Lead and participate in design reviews across projects to maintain consistency, quality, and adherence to established standards. Partner with engineering managers and team leads to establish long-term system design and implementation strategies. Develop feedback loops and continuous improvement processes to improve AI solutions and engineering practices. Coordinate technical meetings, track project progress, help resolve issues, and support effective team collaboration. Prepare presentations and reports for executive stakeholders, explaining technical strategies and their business impact. Apply data mining, data modeling, natural language processing, and machine learning techniques to extract insights from structured and unstructured datasets. Contribute to complex application, system administration, or network-related solutions where relevant to the role. Document installation and maintenance procedures, complete programming tasks, conduct testing and debugging, and define and monitor performance metrics. Identify opportunities to improve time to market, reduce costs, and address current and emerging customer needs.
