Role Description The Chief Accounting Officer is a full-time, remote role responsible for overseeing all financial and accounting activities of the English Debating Society. This includes managing budgeting, tracking income and expenses, and ensuring accurate and timely preparation of financial statements and reports. The role involves establishing and maintaining accounting policies, monitoring financial controls, and supporting compliance with institutional and regulatory requirements. The Chief Accounting Officer will coordinate with society leadership on financial planning, provide regular financial updates, and contribute to strategic decision-making regarding events, sponsorships, and resource allocation. The role also entails maintaining organized financial records, working with any external auditors or advisors as needed, and recommending improvements to financial processes.

Qualifications

Candidates should possess strong accounting skills, including Accounting and Certified Public Accounting (CPA) or equivalent professional certification. Candidates should possess expertise in Finance, with the ability to support budgeting, cash flow management, and financial planning. Candidates should possess skills in Financial Statements and Financial Reporting, ensuring accuracy, timeliness, and compliance. Candidates should possess proficiency with common accounting software and spreadsheets, and strong analytical and problem-solving abilities. Candidates should possess excellent attention to detail, integrity in handling financial information, and effective written and verbal communication skills. Candidates should possess the ability to work independently in a remote setting, manage multiple deadlines, and collaborate with student leaders and stakeholders. Relevant academic background in Accounting, Finance, Commerce, or a related field is preferred; experience in nonprofit or student organization finance is an advantage.
