Chief Financial Officer
Chief Financial Officer "If you'd rather build something than simply maintain it, and our mission speaks to you, I'd genuinely welcome a conversation." Koniag Energy & Water (KEW) π Location: Remote (Texas preferred) π€ Reports To: Chief Executive Officer π§ Type: Full-Time | Executive Leadership Team The Opportunity KEW is seeking its first sector-level Chief Financial Officer to serve as a strategic partner to the CEO and a highly hands-on finance leader for the combined organization. This role will lead finance integration following the Houston acquisition, drive ERP and systems modernization, oversee project accounting and reporting, support growth initiatives and M&A activity, and provide executive oversight for Human Resources and Information Technology across the KEW platform. This is an opportunity to build rather than maintain. We're looking for a leader who enjoys creating scalable systems, processes, and teams within a growing entrepreneurial organization. This is not a traditional large-company CFO role. The successful candidate will be expected to personally lead ERP transformation initiatives, drive finance integration efforts, build consolidated financial reporting processes, and remain closely involved in day-to-day finance and accounting execution. The ideal candidate is equally comfortable developing strategy and rolling up their sleeves to solve problems directly. Integration & Systems Transformation Lead finance integration of the Houston acquisition and Canadian operations. Establish a consolidated multi-entity, multi-currency finance structure. Personally lead KEW's ERP transformation, including project planning, governance, implementation partner management, stakeholder alignment, budget oversight and deployment. Today our companies operate on different Microsoft Dynamics 365 platforms, including Business Central and Finance & Operations. The CFO will assess the current environments, select the long-term architecture and lead consolidation onto a scalable platform capable of supporting future acquisitions. Standardize chart of accounts, close processes, internal controls and project accounting practices. Drive digital workflows, reporting automation and AI-enabled finance processes. KEW intends to incorporate AI-enabled tools into finance and operations, including close management, account reconciliations, forecasting, workflow automation, analytics and decision support. Identify and deliver operational and back-office synergies across businesses. Serve as both executive sponsor and active project leader throughout the ERP transformation effort, driving process design, reporting architecture, data standards, user adoption, and organizational change management. Financial Reporting & Control Own monthly, quarterly and annual close processes. Prepare consolidated financial statements and executive reporting packages for KEW leadership, the Board and Koniag corporate finance. Serve as KEW's primary finance liaison to Koniag leadership and corporate finance, ensuring alignment on reporting, budgeting, capital planning and governance. Maintain a strong internal control environment and manage external audit relationships. Ensure compliance with ASC 606 revenue recognition requirements. Oversee percentage-of-completion accounting, change orders, retainage, estimates-at-completion and project margin performance across engineering, automation, field services and construction projects. Manage consolidation of Canadian operations, including foreign currency translation, remeasurement and intercompany transactions. Lead annual budgeting, forecasting and cash flow planning. Personally lead the development and refinement of consolidated reporting packages during the integration and transformation period while establishing scalable long-term reporting processes. Remain actively involved in close processes, consolidations, reporting design, and financial analysis rather than relying solely on delegated resources. Qualifications 15+ years of progressive finance leadership experience. Minimum 5 years serving as CFO, Divisional CFO, VP Finance, Corporate Controller, or a combination of senior finance leadership roles with significant responsibility for accounting, financial reporting, consolidations, and ERP implementation. Experience within industrial instrumentation and controls, engineering, construction, electrical contracting or field services organizations with project-based revenue. Strong project accounting expertise, including WIP reporting, job costing, percentage-of-completion accounting and ASC 606. Demonstrated acquisition and post-merger integration experience. Experience operating within complex multi-entity organizations. Multi-currency experience, including USD/CAD environments. Proven ERP implementation and finance systems transformation experience. Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Dynamics 365 (Business Central and/or Finance & Operations) preferred. Experience implementing AI-enabled finance tools is a plus. Experience leading finance organizations in acquisitive, high-growth environments is preferred. Experience with government contracting, including DCAA-compliant accounting systems, federal cost structures, prevailing wage requirements and certified payroll processes, is highly desirable. Experience overseeing HR and IT functions preferred. Ability to lead distributed teams while maintaining a hands-on approach. CPA and/or MBA required. Candidates who advanced from Controller or Corporate Controller roles into CFO positions are strongly encouraged to apply. Demonstrated experience personally leading ERP implementations, finance system integrations, reporting consolidations, chart-of-account standardization, and post-acquisition finance integration efforts is strongly preferred. Must be comfortable operating in a lean, high-growth environment where the CFO is expected to function as both a strategic leader and an individual contributor when necessary. What Success Looks Like in the First 12 Months Consistent, board-ready consolidated reporting across all entities, including Canadian operations. Successful finance integration of the Houston acquisition with unified policies, controls and reporting standards. Houston, Alaska and Canadian finance teams operating under common enterprise processes and expectations. Improved project-level WIP reporting, margin visibility, backlog analysis and operational KPI reporting. ERP strategy approved and implementation underway, with the CFO serving as executive sponsor and day-to-day leader of the transformation effort. Initial AI-enabled finance processes piloted and delivering measurable value. HR and IT integration plans established and advancing. Finance organization prepared to support future acquisitions and continued growth. ERP implementation actively progressing, with the CFO serving as the primary business leader responsible for process design, reporting requirements, organizational alignment, user adoption, and change management. A scalable consolidated reporting framework established across all entities, with accurate and timely financial reporting supporting both executive decision-making and future acquisitions.
