Chief Financial Officer

Role Description The Chief Financial Officer (CFO) is a full-time remote role responsible for overseeing the financial strategy and operations of USYD Fintech Society. The CFO manages budgeting, cash flow, and financial planning to ensure the society’s activities are sustainable and aligned with its goals. Day-to-day duties include preparing and reviewing financial statements, monitoring expenses and revenues, maintaining accurate financial records, and producing timely financial reports for the executive team. The CFO collaborates with other leaders to evaluate funding opportunities, sponsorships, and investments, and provides analytical insights to support decision-making. The role also involves ensuring compliance with relevant university and regulatory guidelines, implementing financial controls, and recommending improvements to financial processes and policies.

Qualifications

Strong foundation in Finance, with experience in Financial Planning and budgeting to support strategic and operational decisions. Ability to prepare, analyze, and interpret Financial Statements and Financial Reporting for internal and external stakeholders. Demonstrated Analytical Skills, including the capacity to evaluate data, assess financial risks, and provide clear recommendations. Relevant academic background in finance, accounting, economics, business, or a related field. Proficiency with spreadsheets and financial software tools; strong attention to detail and accuracy. Effective communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to explain financial concepts to non-specialist team members. Experience in or interest in fintech, startup environments, or student organizations is highly beneficial. Capacity to work independently in a remote setting, manage multiple priorities, and meet deadlines responsibly.
