Role Description The Chief Scientific Officer (CSO) is a full-time remote role responsible for leading Ethena Labs’ scientific and research strategy across blockchain-enabled financial products. The CSO will oversee research and development initiatives, design and evaluate experimental frameworks, and ensure scientific rigor in all data-driven investment methodologies. Day-to-day tasks include directing R&D projects, collaborating with cross-functional teams (product, engineering, and investment), reviewing and interpreting scientific and technical data, and translating complex findings into clear guidance for business decisions. The CSO will mentor research staff, manage external scientific partnerships, maintain high standards of integrity and compliance, and stay current with advances in science, medicine, and technology relevant to the company’s offerings.
Qualifications
Demonstrated expertise in Research and Development (R&D), with a strong track record of leading innovative scientific programs. Advanced research skills, including hypothesis development, study design, data analysis, and publication or dissemination of findings. Deep foundation in Science and Medicine, with the ability to apply interdisciplinary knowledge to emerging technologies and digital finance. Proficient Laboratory Skills, including oversight of experimental protocols, quality control, and adherence to safety and regulatory standards. Doctoral degree (PhD, MD, or equivalent) in a relevant scientific or medical discipline, or comparable industry experience. Experience leading scientific teams, setting strategic research priorities, and managing complex, multi-stakeholder projects. Strong analytical, critical thinking, and problem-solving abilities, with comfort working with quantitative models and data-driven decision-making. Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to explain complex scientific concepts to non-technical stakeholders. Experience in blockchain, digital assets, or technology-driven financial products is highly beneficial. Ability to work effectively in a remote, distributed environment and collaborate across time zones and disciplines.
