Client Accounting Services Manager
AB & Associates is a growing boutique CPA and advisory firm based in Los Angeles, California. We serve a select group of business owners, entrepreneurs, real estate investors, and high-net-worth individuals who expect more from their accounting professionals than accurate financial statements and timely tax returns. Our philosophy is simple: exceptional technical expertise combined with exceptional client service. We develop long-term relationships with our clients, understand their businesses, and take pride in being trusted advisors. We value professionalism, accountability, responsiveness, and a genuine commitment to our clients' success. As our firm continues to grow, we are seeking an exceptional Client Accounting Services Manager to take ownership of our client accounting services and help us deliver an even higher level of service. About the Opportunity: This is not a traditional bookkeeping position. We are looking for an experienced accounting professional who combines strong technical accounting skills, excellent judgment, exceptional communication abilities, and a genuine passion for working with clients. You will lead the day-to-day delivery of our client accounting services, oversee and review work performed by a supporting bookkeeping professional, manage client relationships, and ensure that our clients receive timely, accurate, meaningful financial information. You will be accountable for the quality of the accounting work, but you will not be expected to personally perform every routine bookkeeping task. The ideal candidate enjoys taking ownership, solving problems independently, improving processes, and becoming a trusted resource to both clients and colleagues. Key Responsibilities: Client Relationships & Exceptional Service Serve as the primary accounting contact for an assigned portfolio of clients, building trusted, long-term professional relationships. Deliver the highest standard of personalized, responsive, valuable, and proactive client service. Communicate directly with business owners, executives, and other client representatives to resolve accounting matters and provide meaningful financial information. Present and explain financial statements in clear, practical language that helps clients understand their businesses. Anticipate client needs, identify issues early, and communicate solutions proactively. Represent AB & Associates with professionalism, discretion, confidence, and sound judgment. Accounting Oversight & Financial Reporting Oversee monthly and quarterly accounting and financial reporting for multiple clients and legal entities. Review bookkeeping performed by supporting accounting staff, including bank and credit card reconciliations, transaction classifications, and supporting schedules. Prepare and review adjusting journal entries, accruals, prepaids, loan reconciliations, payroll entries, and other accounting adjustments. Ensure accurate, complete, and properly supported balance sheets and income statements. Analyze financial results, investigate unusual balances and variances, and resolve discrepancies before financial statements are delivered. Understand and apply cash-basis and accrual-basis accounting principles as appropriate. Coordinate closely with the firm's tax team to ensure consistency between accounting records, tax adjustments, and filed returns. Maintain high-quality accounting records and documentation suitable for professional CPA firm standards. Payroll & Business Compliance Oversee payroll processing through Gusto and other applicable payroll platforms. Understand payroll calculations, employee and employer taxes, withholdings, benefits, payroll liabilities, and related journal entries. Coordinate payroll processing with clients and the firm's tax professionals, including shareholder compensation and other client-specific requirements. Oversee recurring non-income-tax compliance obligations, including business licenses, entity renewals, information filings, and limited sales tax reporting. Maintain reliable tracking systems to ensure recurring deadlines are completed accurately and on time. Team Leadership & Quality Control Supervise, train, and review work performed by bookkeepers. Establish clear expectations, responsibilities, deadlines, and quality-control procedures. Effectively delegate transactional bookkeeping while retaining ownership of technical accounting, financial reporting, and client relationships. Provide constructive feedback, resolve technical accounting questions, and support the professional development of team members. Collaborate with the firm's tax professionals and leadership to deliver a seamless client experience. Technology, Efficiency & Continuous Improvement Identify opportunities to improve accuracy, consistency, efficiency, and the client experience. Leverage QuickBooks Online, workflow management systems, automation, and AI-assisted tools to reduce repetitive work and improve reporting. Develop and enhance standardized checklists, workflows, reporting packages, and quality-control procedures. Evaluate new technologies and recommend practical improvements while maintaining appropriate professional review and data-security standards. Help build a scalable client accounting services function capable of supporting continued growth.
