Client Lead / Controller (CPA)

Remote (US, Central Time hours) | Full-time | $85K–$110K base + up to 20% quarterly performance bonus WHO WE ARE Veritas Management Group is the outsourced finance department for $5M–$50M construction, legal, and service businesses. We deliver CFO-level strategy, controller-level accuracy, and month-end close by day 10 — every client, every month. We are growing fast and building our first delivery pod. This is the seat that runs it. THE ROLE You own client delivery so our CFO can own client strategy and growth. You are the person clients trust with the numbers and the team trusts with the review. You will Run 8–12 client engagements end to end: close calendar, review, delivery, client questions. Review every close before it ships. Nothing goes to a client without your sign-off. Lead 2–3 accountants (onshore + offshore). Set the work, check the work, coach the work. Own onboarding for new clients: cleanup scope, 30-day plan, first CFO meeting prep. Present monthly financial packages to owners alongside our CFO — and, within 90 days, on your own. Run our operating norms: every update ends with a RISK line; anything that changes a deliverable, date, or number is escalated the same day. You will not Prepare tax returns. Tax is handled by our vendor partner; you coordinate, you don't file. Do bookkeeping. You review it. MUST-HAVES Active CPA. 5+ years in accounting with at least 2 years reviewing others' work (public accounting senior/manager or controller at a multi-entity company). Construction or job-cost/WIP experience, or legal trust accounting. QuickBooks Online expert; comfortable with Xero, Bill.com, Gusto/iSolved, and building workpapers in Excel. You've delivered a close on a deadline with a team you didn't fully control. Direct communicator. Bad news in one day, not one week. NICE-TO-HAVES Managed offshore staff. Fractional CFO / advisory firm background. Reviewed financials for lenders, bonding companies, or PE-backed owners. YOUR FIRST 90 DAYS (THIS IS THE SCORECARD) Day 30: shadowing our CFO on 2 clients; every close reviewed by you; zero missed client SLAs. Day 60: you own 6 clients; day-10 close hit on all of them. Day 90: you own 10 clients, run first-of-month client meetings without our CFO, and your clients rate you 9+/10. Hit it and the bonus is yours. Miss it twice and we'll both know it's not the fit.
