About the Role

Life360 is seeking a Senior Data Engineer II, AI Native to help build and maintain the data infrastructure behind its next-generation data platform. The role focuses on scalable data pipelines, secure data storage, and processing systems that support real-time analytics, machine learning, and experimentation. You will work with high-volume datasets and take ownership of data engineering projects from design through implementation and maintenance. Working closely with product, analytics, and data science teams, you will help improve data reliability, optimize performance, and build data products that support business decisions. The role also involves using large language models (LLMs) to accelerate development while maintaining responsibility for code quality, testing, and engineering standards.

Key Responsibilities

Design, build, and maintain scalable, distributed data pipelines and systems, covering ingestion, ELT processing, and storage. Support both streaming and batch processing for real-time analytics, machine learning, and experimentation. Automate, test, and strengthen data workflows to maintain reliability at scale. Design logical and physical data models that support changing business requirements. Build and maintain features used by machine learning models. Collaborate with product, analytics, and data science teams to turn data into practical business value. Use LLMs for code generation, analysis, and related engineering tasks while reviewing outputs for quality, standards, and test coverage. Take ownership of AI-generated code and ensure it meets the same engineering expectations as other production code.

Required Qualifications

At least 5 years of experience working with high-volume data infrastructure. Strong expertise in a modern cloud data warehouse or lakehouse platform, preferably Databricks. Snowflake, BigQuery, or similar platforms are also considered. Experience working with a major cloud provider, such as AWS, Google Cloud Platform (GCP), or Azure. Proficiency in Python and SQL, including writing and optimizing complex queries. Hands-on experience with dbt. Experience with large-scale data processing using Spark and/or Presto/Trino. Strong understanding of data modeling, partitioning strategies, storage formats, and analytical workload optimization. Experience using LLMs for code generation, analysis, and related tasks, with the ability to review, test, and take ownership of AI-generated output. Experience with modern data engineering tools, including workflow orchestration platforms such as Airflow or Databricks Workflows, CI/CD tools such as GitHub Actions, and infrastructure-as-code tools such as Terraform or DABs. Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Management Information Systems, Statistics, Mathematics, Data Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Software Engineering, or a related quantitative field. AI-Native Expectations Life360’s Data & Analytics team uses LLMs to support code generation, analysis, and other engineering tasks. Candidates should be able to use these tools effectively while maintaining close oversight of code quality, engineering standards, and testing. Engineers are expected to take full ownership of AI-assisted work and use these tools to improve development speed and effectiveness. AI tool usage may vary during the interview process. Candidates may be asked to demonstrate their proficiency with AI tools, explain how they use AI, or complete interview exercises without AI assistance. Recruiters will provide guidance during the process. Undisclosed AI use that has not been discussed with or approved by the recruiter may affect a candidate’s application.
