Mission and objectives

Youth Co:Lab positions young people front and center in order to solve the region’s most pressing challenges. Co-created in 2017 by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and the Citi Foundation, Youth Co:Lab aims to establish a common agenda for countries in the Asia-Pacific region to empower and invest in youth so that they can accelerate the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) through leadership, social innovation and entrepreneurship.

Context

Asia and the Pacific has a large and diverse youth population, but young people continue to face significant barriers to accessing decent work and sustainable livelihoods. Globally, around 1.2 billion young people are expected to enter the workforce over the next decade, while only around 400 million jobs are projected to be created, highlighting the scale and urgency of the challenge.

At the same time, the region presents significant opportunities to advance more inclusive and productive employment. UNDP supports these efforts through partnerships and innovation ecosystems such as Youth Co:Lab and Skill Our Future, as well as country-level collaborations, including initiatives supporting informal workers. Against this backdrop, research and evidence can help identify and document relevant policies, programmes, partnerships, and approaches to youth employment and economic empowerment.

Task type

Data analysis

Task description

The Online Volunteer will support UNDP’s youth employment and economic empowerment agenda in Asia and the Pacific through data integration, analysis, and the development of an evidence-based diagnostic tool.

Under the supervision of the Programme Specialist, Civil Society and Youth, the Online Volunteer will bring together relevant quantitative and qualitative datasets and identifying how different sources can be combined to assess key dimensions of the UNDP’s youth employment and economic empowerment agenda across countries in the region.

Specific tasks include: - Identify, compile, and organize relevant quantitative and qualitative datasets (approx. 25-30 datasets) responding to key dimensions of the Jobs4Prosperity agenda. - Assess the scope, methodology, coverage, strengths, limitations, and relevance of available datasets and indicators. - Analyse and synthesize information across sources to identify relationships, complementarities, overlaps, and gaps. - Support the development of diagnostic indicators and analytical dimensions for assessing Jobs4Prosperity conditions across the region and within countries, enabling both snapshot and longitudinal analysis. - Develop and maintain a structured excel sheet for record keeping purposes that brings together relevant information identified during the research and makes it available for future use. - Prepare two pages of analytical outputs and two data visualizations highlighting key findings and insights.
