Engineer Intern - Agentic AI & Grid Decision Support
About us WattByte Nexus LLC is an AI-native startup building power grid simulation and analytics software and a grid resilience decision support platform, supporting environmental decision-making and extreme-weather resilience. It is incorporated in Littleton, CO, with office space at the Beck Vecture Center, Colorado School of Mines, Golden, CO. The role Part-time (10 hrs/week), fully remote, $25/hr (W-2). October 26, 2026 – May 30, 2027, up to 480 hours. You'll help build the decision-support module on top of our grid simulation and grid resilience decision support platform — implementing physics-constrained AI models and LLM-based agentic workflows that evaluate grid conditions and model environmental risk-mitigation strategies during severe weather and wildfire events. What you'll do Develop, test, and fine-tune LLM-driven autonomous AI agents for domain-specific decision support Connect AI agent reasoning with power-flow and contingency physics solvers (automated violation detection, mitigation formulation) Build data pipelines for multi-modal spatial data: grid topology, weather patterns, wildfire boundaries Help design and deploy interactive web-based dashboards on cloud infrastructure What you'll gain Hands-on experience with agentic AI / LLM systems and physics-constrained ML for physical-system analytics Real-world exposure to power grid and environmental risk management Structured mentorship, regular check-ins, and career guidance
Qualifications
Currently enrolled student (undergraduate or graduate) in computer science, data science, electrical engineering, applied math or a related field; students at Colorado or Wyoming institutions are especially encouraged to apply. Strong Python skills; familiarity with LLMs or agent frameworks (e.g., LangChain) a plus Interest in power systems, grid operations, or environmental resilience a plus Self-directed, strong problem-solver, comfortable working across software, data, and domain engineering Legal to work in the U.S. without any sponsorship. Program note This internship position is jointly funded and supported by the NSF ASCEND Engine (Innosphere), building Colorado and Wyoming's talent pipeline in environmental sensing and resilience technologies. The intern is hired directly as W-2 employees of WattByte Nexus; the position is temporary.
