Experienced Nonfiction Business Book Editor Needed for Concert Promotions Guide & Companion Workbook

🌍 Remote · United States 💼 Full-time

Company: Dimichaux Publishing Project Type: Freelance / Contract Category: Editing & Proofreading Experience Level: Intermediate to Expert Project Scope: Two Related Nonfiction Publications Project Overview Dimichaux Publishing is seeking an experienced, detail-oriented nonfiction editor to professionally edit two related publications: 1. Concert Promotions for Beginners — A practical, educational guide designed to introduce aspiring concert promoters, entrepreneurs, and entertainment professionals to the business of organizing and promoting live music events. 2. Concert Promotions Workbook — A companion workbook designed to reinforce the book’s lessons through exercises, planning tools, practical activities, worksheets, and real-world business applications. We are looking for an editor with a strong background in business publishing, entrepreneurship, instructional nonfiction, or educational workbooks. Experience in entertainment, event management, concert promotion, or the music business is a significant advantage.

Responsibilities

The selected freelancer will provide comprehensive editorial services for both manuscripts, including: 1. Developmental & Structural Editing

  • Evaluate the overall organization, chapter progression, and logical flow.
  • Ensure the information is accessible to readers with little or no concert promotion experience.
  • Identify areas requiring additional explanation, clarification, or restructuring.
  • Evaluate the instructional value and practical usefulness of the material.
  • Identify unnecessary repetition, inconsistencies, and missing information.

2. Business & Technical Content Review

  • Review business concepts for clarity, accuracy, and consistency.
  • Identify information that may require fact-checking or updated industry practices.
  • Evaluate explanations of budgeting, concert financing, ticket sales, marketing, artist booking, venue relationships, contracts, and event operations where covered.
  • Flag potentially misleading business or financial information.
  • Preserve the author’s expertise and intended message.

3. Workbook Review & Alignment

  • Ensure workbook exercises directly complement the accompanying book.
  • Evaluate instructions, worksheets, checklists, and practical assignments.
  • Identify activities that may confuse beginners or require additional explanation.
  • Review the consistency of terminology, calculations, examples, and educational objectives.
  • Make recommendations to improve the workbook’s effectiveness as a learning resource.

4. Copyediting & Proofreading

  • Correct grammar, spelling, punctuation, and sentence structure.
  • Improve readability, consistency, and professional presentation.
  • Maintain a clear, approachable, and encouraging instructional tone.
  • Eliminate awkward phrasing and unnecessary repetition.
  • Complete a final proofreading review after revisions are incorporated.

Required Qualifications

  • Demonstrated experience editing published nonfiction business or educational books.
  • Experience editing instructional guides, workbooks, training manuals, or similar materials.
  • Strong developmental editing and copyediting skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Word and Track Changes.
  • Ability to evaluate instructional content from a beginner’s perspective.
  • Excellent written communication and attention to detail.
  • Ability to provide thoughtful editorial feedback without unnecessarily rewriting the author’s voice.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Familiarity with the entertainment industry, concert promotion, event production, or music business.
  • Experience editing entrepreneurship or small-business publications.
  • Prior experience preparing manuscripts for independent publishing, including Amazon KDP.
  • Understanding of workbook structure, educational exercises, and practical business applications.

Expected Deliverables 1. Professionally edited manuscripts for both publications, with Track Changes enabled. 2. Clean edited versions incorporating approved changes. 3. A written editorial assessment identifying areas of strength and recommended improvements. 4. A review of consistency and alignment between the main book and workbook. 5. A final proofreading pass after agreed revisions are completed. Application Requirements Please include the following in your proposal:

  • A brief description of your nonfiction and business editing experience.
  • Examples of previously edited business books, instructional guides, or workbooks.
  • Your experience working with independent publishers.
  • Your recommended editorial approach for these two publications.
  • Your estimated turnaround time.
  • Your pricing structure, including whether your proposal covers developmental editing, copyediting, and proofreading.

Applicants with relevant experience in the entertainment or live-event industry are encouraged to highlight that background. Please do not submit generic proposals. We are specifically seeking an editor who understands the distinction between editing a traditional nonfiction book and editing materials designed to educate readers and help them develop practical business skills. About the Publisher Dimichaux Publishing is an independent publishing company committed to producing meaningful, professionally developed books that inform, educate, inspire, and empower readers. We are seeking a reliable editorial professional who takes pride in delivering publication-quality work and values constructive collaboration. We look forward to reviewing your qualifications and portfolio. Dimichaux Publishing Apply To This Job
