Founder’s Office — Growth & Strategic Initiatives
Founder's Office — Growth & Strategic Initiatives Rainy Day Pets | Early-Stage Premium Pet Care Company About Rainy Day Pets Rainy Day Pets is building a different kind of pet care company. We started with a simple belief: dogs deserve more than supervision, and pet parents deserve more than a marketplace of profiles to sort through. They deserve genuine care, trust, safety, personalization, and peace of mind. Today, we're evolving Rainy Day Pets into a curated network of trusted pet care professionals delivering premium, home-based care through one brand and one consistent standard. Our goal is not to become another Rover, Wag, or traditional kennel-style boarding company. We're building something between the marketplace and the facility: A professionally managed pet care network where Rainy Day Pets recruits, vets, matches, supports, and quality-controls caregivers on behalf of the client. A client shouldn't have to search through hundreds of profiles and hope they choose correctly. They should be able to tell us about their dog—and trust us to make the right match. A senior dog may need a quiet home and a caregiver experienced with older pets. A high-energy puppy may thrive with a caregiver who provides structured play and carefully managed socialization. An anxious dog may need individualized care from someone experienced with that temperament. The care should fit the dog. That's the Rainy Day Pets philosophy. The Vision We're starting in New York, but we're not building Rainy Day Pets to remain a neighborhood pet care company. Our long-term ambition is to build a trusted premium pet care brand that can expand: Neighborhood → City → Region → State → Nationally → Potentially Internationally But scale cannot come at the expense of what made the company work in the first place. As Rainy Day Pets grows, we want the experience to remain:
- Personal
- Loving
- Safe
- Curated
- Reliable
- Premium
- Emotionally reassuring
- Consistent
Our challenge is therefore bigger than simply acquiring customers. How do you turn deeply personal, founder-led pet care into a scalable company without removing the humanity that made clients trust it? That's what we're building. Why We're Hiring Differently This isn't a conventional job posting. We're an early-stage company, and we don't assume that every important person who joins Rainy Day Pets will fit neatly into a predetermined job description. We're interested in meeting exceptional builders who look at what we're creating and immediately start thinking: "I know how I could help build this." Your background might be in:
- Growth
- Startup operations
- Business development
- Partnerships
- Strategy
- Marketplace/network businesses
- Hospitality
- Customer experience
- Technology or product
- Community development
- Franchise or multi-market expansion
- Pet care
- Brand building
- Sales
- Founder/entrepreneurial experience
You may even bring expertise we haven't identified yet. We're more interested in capability, ownership, judgment, and alignment with the mission than matching someone to a traditional corporate box. What You Could Work On Depending on your background and strengths, you could help Rainy Day Pets tackle questions such as: Growth How do we systematically acquire high-value recurring clients across new geographic markets? Geographic Expansion How should we launch and build caregiver density neighborhood by neighborhood and eventually city by city? Caregiver Network How do we recruit, vet, retain, support, and develop exceptional pet care professionals? The Rainy Day Standard How do we transform founder-level care into training, standards, quality controls, and systems that thousands of caregivers could eventually follow? Partnerships How could relationships with apartment communities, residential developers, veterinarians, groomers, pet brands, employers, and other organizations accelerate growth? Customer Experience How do we make Rainy Day Pets feel significantly more trusted and personalized than a marketplace? Technology What should eventually be automated or productized to make matching, scheduling, communication, quality control, and network management scalable? Unit Economics How do we grow while maintaining strong economics for the company and attractive earning opportunities for exceptional caregivers? New Markets What must be true operationally, financially, legally, and culturally before Rainy Day Pets enters another market? Who We're Looking For You don't need to check every box. You should, however, be someone who:
- Thinks like an owner rather than simply an employee
- Is comfortable operating in ambiguity
- Can turn ideas into execution
- Challenges assumptions intelligently
- Is highly resourceful
- Can work directly with founders
- Understands that early-stage companies require flexibility
- Cares about customers, animals, and the people providing the service
- Can build systems rather than creating founder dependency
- Is excited by the possibility of helping build something from an early stage
Most importantly: You should genuinely believe in what we're trying to create. The Rainy Day Standard As we scale, every caregiver and every market should ultimately reflect the same principles: Genuine Love & Care Dogs should feel safe, comfortable, understood, and genuinely cared for. Trust & Peace of Mind Pet parents should know their dog is in responsible, communicative, dependable hands. Personalized Care Different dogs need different environments, routines, and caregivers. Premium Experience Every interaction—from first inquiry through the end of a stay—should feel thoughtful and professional. Consistency Rainy Day Pets should mean something regardless of who provides the service or where it happens. What This Opportunity Is We're still early. That means we're not presenting ourselves as a finished company with every answer already figured out. We're building. Some systems exist. Others still need to be created. Our business model will continue to evolve as we learn, expand, and strengthen the company. For the right person, that's the opportunity. You won't simply inherit a mature department. You may help create one. Exceptional early contributors may have the opportunity to grow into larger functional or leadership responsibilities as the company scales, based on performance, business needs, and mutual fit. When You Apply Don't just send us a résumé. Tell us: 1. What about Rainy Day Pets interests you? 2. Where do you believe your experience could create the most value for us over the next 12 months? 3. If your goal were to help take Rainy Day Pets from a strong local business into a multi-market company, what would you focus on first? 4. What have you personally built, grown, launched, improved, or scaled? 5. Why do you enjoy working in early-stage environments? We want to meet people who don't simply see a job posting. We want to meet people who see what Rainy Day Pets could become.
