About The Role We are seeking a Staff Software Engineer, Frontend, to join the Advanced Trading team within the Consumer & Business group. In this pivotal role, you will lead the front-end technical strategy for Coinbase Advanced, our sophisticated trading platform designed for experienced traders. You will be responsible for the performance, reliability, and scalability of our web and mobile trading clients, ensuring a low-latency, responsive experience for users trading across various instrument types. This role offers a unique opportunity to influence both the technical direction of the platform and the growth of the engineering team, operating at the intersection of cryptocurrency, trading infrastructure, and consumer product development. Qualifications 8+ years of mobile software engineering experience on iOS (Swift) or Android (Kotlin), with proficiency or willingness to develop skills on the alternate platform. Proven expertise in optimizing complex UI systems for performance, including rendering, network efficiency, and state management at scale. Experience leading technical strategy, including architecture decisions, trade-off analysis, and cross-team collaboration on multi-quarter initiatives. Demonstrated success mentoring senior engineers and driving improvements in engineering standards and delivery velocity. Familiarity with high-availability, low-latency systems such as trading platforms, financial systems, or real-time data applications. Responsible utilization of generative AI technologies, maintaining human oversight to enhance workflow efficiency, cost-effectiveness, and output quality.
Responsibilities
Own the front-end technical roadmap for Coinbase Advanced, making architecture decisions that support a scalable and reliable trading platform across web and mobile. Drive measurable performance improvements in rendering, network efficiency, and state management to deliver a low-latency trading experience. Lead complex, multi-quarter technical initiatives end-to-end, setting and enforcing high standards for code quality, system design, and engineering rigor. Mentor senior engineers through hands-on guidance, elevating technical decision-making and fostering growth within the subteam. Collaborate with Product and Engineering leadership to translate business priorities into actionable technical plans and deliver impactful features. Establish and shape front-end engineering practices and patterns that scale with a growing team, accelerating development velocity.
