About The Role As a Staff Software Engineer specializing in Frontend development within the Advanced Trading team, you will play a pivotal role in shaping the technical direction of Coinbase's trading platforms. This high-impact position involves leading the front-end technical strategy for Coinbase Advanced, a sophisticated trading environment designed for experienced traders. Your responsibilities will include owning the performance, reliability, and scalability of web and mobile trading clients, ensuring they deliver low-latency, high-performance experiences across multiple instrument types. You will collaborate closely with product managers, engineering leaders, and cross-functional teams to translate business needs into robust technical solutions. Your leadership will influence both the architecture and the engineering practices that support rapid development and high-quality delivery, ultimately enabling traders to execute transactions efficiently and securely. Qualifications 8+ years of professional software engineering experience with a focus on front-end development Deep expertise in modern front-end frameworks such as React, React Native, or equivalent Extensive experience in mobile development environments Proven track record of optimizing complex UI systems for performance, including rendering, network efficiency, and state management at scale Experience leading technical strategy, architecture decisions, and multi-quarter initiatives Strong mentoring skills with a history of guiding senior engineers and elevating team standards Familiarity with high-availability, low-latency systems, especially in trading, financial, or real-time data applications Ability to utilize AI responsibly, maintaining oversight to improve workflows and deliver business value Excellent problem-solving, communication, and collaboration skills
Responsibilities
Define and own the front-end technical roadmap for Coinbase Advanced, including architecture and design decisions that support scalability and reliability Drive performance improvements across rendering, network utilization, and state management to ensure a low-latency trading experience Lead complex, multi-quarter technical initiatives from conception through implementation, setting high standards for code quality and system design Mentor senior engineers, fostering technical growth and enhancing team decision-making capabilities Partner with product and engineering leadership to translate business objectives into actionable technical plans and deliver impactful features Establish and promote front-end engineering best practices, patterns, and conventions that support team growth and development velocity Collaborate across teams to ensure seamless integration and consistent technical standards Monitor system performance and implement optimizations to enhance user experience and platform stability
