IT Accountant
THIS IS ONLY OPEN TO PERMANENT RESIDENTS OF THE U.S. Please no sub vendors Position Summary We are seeking a detail-oriented IT Accountant/Financial Analyst to support the financial management, accounting coordination, and financial controls associated with our IT organization and technology project portfolio. This is a hands-on role responsible for ensuring that IT expenses, capital projects, labor capitalization, accruals, invoices, and fixed-asset activity are accurately captured and reported. The analyst will work closely with IT leadership, Corporate Accounting, FP&A/Finance, Accounts Payable, project managers, and other business partners. The position operates in a public-company environment, so the ideal candidate should be comfortable working within U.S. GAAP, capitalization policies, SOX controls, financial close processes, and audit requirements. SOX Section 404 focuses specifically on effective internal control over financial reporting, making control discipline and documentation particularly important for this role.
Key Responsibilities
Invoice & Expense Management Review and code IT invoices to the appropriate GL account, cost center, project, asset authorization, and CapEx/OpEx classification. Coordinate with Accounts Payable, Accounting, Finance, vendors, and IT owners to resolve coding or invoice discrepancies. Track invoices through the accounting cycle and identify expenses requiring accrual. Prepare and support monthly and quarter-end accruals for goods and services received but not yet invoiced. Help ensure IT expenses are recorded in the appropriate accounting period. Capital Labor & Capitalization Prepare and maintain recurring capitalized labor reporting for eligible technology projects. Review employee/project labor information for completeness, proper project allocation, and alignment with capitalization requirements. Partner with Accounting and IT/project leadership to resolve exceptions before monthly and quarterly close. Maintain supporting documentation necessary for financial review and audit purposes. Our existing process specifically includes reviewing consolidated capital labor reports for completeness and working with managers to correct issues before final reporting to Finance and Accounting. Fixed Assets / Assets in Service Track IT capital projects and assets from work-in-progress through placement into service. Work with project managers and technology owners to obtain and validate asset in-service and out-of-service dates. Assist Accounting with information necessary for accurate fixed-asset accounting and depreciation timing. Maintain supporting asset schedules and follow up on missing or incomplete information. Project Financial Reporting Track technology project actuals versus budget and forecast. Identify and research material budget variances. Produce recurring project and portfolio financial reports for IT and Finance leadership. Support project managers with understanding project spend, commitments, forecasts, CapEx, and OpEx. Assist with budget and forecast cycles and provide supporting financial analysis as required. This aligns well with the internal KPI structure, which includes budget adherence, invoice processing and accuracy, quarterly capital labor reporting, and quarterly asset reporting. Month-End / Quarter-End Close Support monthly, quarterly, and year-end financial close activities. Prepare accrual and capitalization schedules within established close deadlines. Reconcile information between project tracking, invoices, ERP/general ledger information, and financial reporting systems. Respond to Accounting, Finance, and audit inquiries and provide supporting documentation. Financial Controls & Audit Support Maintain accurate, organized, and audit-ready financial documentation. Follow established SOX/internal-control procedures and assist with evidence requests. Help identify discrepancies or potential control issues and work with Accounting and Finance to resolve them. Apply appropriate U.S. GAAP and company accounting policies when supporting capitalization and expense classification. Systems & Technical Skills Required / Strongly Preferred Advanced Microsoft Excel skills, including PivotTables, lookups, reconciliation, variance analysis, and large-data-set analysis. Experience with ERP/general ledger and financial reporting systems. Experience with PeopleSoft. Experience preparing financial reconciliations, accruals, and budget-to-actual reporting. Preferred OneStream experience. Workday Financial Management experience or ability to transition into Workday as the organization adopts the platform. Experience with project accounting, fixed assets, or technology capitalization. Experience working with project portfolio or project financial data. I would list OneStream and PeopleSoft as preferred rather than absolute requirements. The accounting/control experience is more important, especially given your eventual move to Workday. Education & Experience I would recommend asking the agency for: Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a closely related field, with Accounting strongly preferred. Accounting, financial analysis, project accounting, or corporate finance experience. Experience working within a publicly traded company or similarly controlled environment strongly preferred. Working knowledge of U.S. GAAP. Experience supporting SOX/internal financial controls and audit documentation. Experience with capital accounting, fixed assets, CapEx vs. OpEx, accruals, and financial close strongly preferred. Technology/IT finance or project accounting experience is highly desirable. That background is particularly relevant because SEC guidance ties SOX Section 404 to management's assessment of internal control over financial reporting and the reliability of financial statements. Key Competencies The person needs to be: Extremely detail-oriented and comfortable reconciling financial information from multiple sources. Able to work effectively under tight monthly and quarterly close deadlines. Persistent and comfortable following up with project managers and technology leaders for missing financial and asset information. Comfortable working directly with Accounting, FP&A, Finance leadership, IT leadership, and auditors. Able to investigate discrepancies rather than simply report them. Highly organized and able to manage multiple recurring financial deliverables simultaneously. Comfortable working independently with limited day-to-day supervision. Able to explain accounting or financial issues clearly to non-finance technology leaders. Strong at creating repeatable reports, reconciliations, and supporting documentation
