Junior Lawyer
Pay: $86,000 - $107,000 per year Job type: Full-time Schedule: Monday to Friday Location: Remote (United States) Leaders come to Wert Group with questions they cannot settle from the documents already on their desk: which investment proposals should be funded and on what assumptions, how reporting lines should run after a reorganization, or why one business unit keeps missing its targets while another meets them. Answering means reading the records first, the investment cases, the reporting structures, the management reports and the objectives the client has stated, and then setting out in writing what the evidence supports. We are hiring a Junior Lawyer to work on that written record, on contracts, governance documents and the legal side of the recommendations we put in front of clients. The work is fully remote, and it can be done remotely because the material is written, the reviews happen over scheduled calls, and the people you work with are consultants, the engagement lead and client-side managers. About Wert Group Wert Group is a management consulting firm based in Boston, Massachusetts, working on strategy, organization and governance for business leaders, owners and management teams. Our services cover strategic priorities, organization design, operating models, performance review, governance and decision rights, and regional operating models, including headquarters and regional responsibilities across Germany, Austria and Switzerland. An engagement starts from the records and ends with a written recommendation, often a decision paper for the people who approve the change, together with the requirements that follow from it. The Position You review the legal and governance side of the material that passes through an engagement: contracts, decision rights, approval routes and the obligations a proposed change creates. You keep that review in writing, in notes and drafts that the engagement lead can use on the first read. You work alongside consultants who handle the commercial analysis, and you ask when a document is ambiguous instead of filling the gap yourself.
Responsibilities
Read contracts, investment proposals and governance documents and summarize the obligations and conditions they contain. Compare the legal terms behind two or more options so the engagement lead can weigh them against each other. Document who holds which decision rights, and check that approval routes match the stated governance rules. Draft sections of decision papers and the requirement lists that follow from a recommended change. Check the legal points in a written recommendation before it goes to an approval committee, including references and defined terms. Keep engagement files in order so that a review can be traced back to the source document. Take notes in client reviews and turn them into a short written record with owners and next steps.
Requirements
A law degree and basic grounding in contract law, from studies, an internship, a clerkship or a first legal role in any setting. Comfort reading a long document closely and pulling out the clauses that carry risk or obligation. Clear writing in English: short sentences, defined terms used consistently, no ambiguity left standing. Care with detail, especially names, dates, figures and cross-references. An organized way of working that keeps several documents and open questions straight at once. Discretion with client material and a habit of raising a question early. Willingness to learn how a consulting engagement runs, including the commercial side. Additional Qualifications Coursework or experience in corporate, commercial or governance law. German language skills, given the regional work across Germany, Austria and Switzerland. Familiarity with reading financial statements or management reporting. Prior work in a professional services or in-house legal environment. Terms Permanent, full-time position. Fully remote, listed in Boston, United States. Medical, dental and vision insurance. 401(k) with company match. Paid time off and paid holidays. Annual professional development budget. Laptop and home office equipment for remote work. The Team You work with consultants who build the analysis and the option comparisons, an engagement lead who sets the shape of the recommendation, and client-side managers who supply the records and answer questions about them. Reviews are held with the people who own the documents, which means your drafts go to someone who can correct them. Your First Review In your first weeks you will read the contracts and governance records behind a live engagement, then sit in on a review where the engagement lead walks the client through the options under consideration. From that discussion you will draft the legal requirements section of the first decision paper, and it will be checked line by line before it goes out. Wert Group is an equal opportunity employer.
