Description of the Department or Unit

In the Department of Management, we are a vibrant community of teachers, scholars, and professional practitioners who are passionate about developing the next generation of business leaders. Our faculty have studied at the world’s best universities, led global enterprises, and are successful entrepreneurs. The department offers two undergraduate Bachelor of Science in Business Administration (BSBA) degree programs: the major in management (MGT) and the major in hospitality and tourism management (HOS). The department also offers, for both business and non-business majors, minors in innovation & entrepreneurship, human resource management, hospitality & tourism management, and sustainable business. At the graduate level, the Industrial-Organizational Psychology and Human Resource Management Program (IOHRM) is an interdisciplinary and award-winning Master of Arts degree program offered jointly by the Department of Management and Department of Psychology. Also, management faculty provide instruction in the Master of Business Administration (MBA) program offered by the Walker College of Business. The Walker College is an AACSB-accredited business school and was featured in The Princeton Review’s 2019 Best Business Schools edition. The Department of Management is the largest department within the Walker College of Business, which itself has the largest business school enrollment in the 17-campus UNC system (approximately 3,000 students). The Management Department at Appalachian State University invites applications for a non-tenure-track, eleven-month Lecturer faculty position beginning January 2027. The position will serve Appalachian State’s online programs.
