Licensed Telehealth Therapist - International Team (Expat, Foreign Service & Military Families)
Active & Connected Family Therapy's International Team provides telehealth therapy to American families living abroad, including Foreign Service, military and other expat families. We're hiring independently licensed therapists who understand the realities of life overseas: frequent moves, deployments, school transitions, and being far from home. Many clients start with us while preparing to go overseas and continue after they return to the Washington, DC area, so continuity of care is central to this work. This role is open to independently licensed clinicians (LPC, LCSW, LMFT or licensed psychologist). Schedule: There are no set shifts. You set your own hours, part-time or full-time. Many clients are in time zones well outside US Eastern, so flexibility in early morning or evening hours is a plus. Licensure and where you can live
- You must hold an active, independent license in Virginia, Washington DC, or Maryland. Licenses in more than one of these is strongly preferred, since it lets you keep seeing clients as they move between posts and the DC area.
- US-based: You can live anywhere in the US.
- Abroad: You must be living overseas on US diplomatic or military orders (for example, as an eligible family member or military spouse), and you must get any required approval to work remotely from post (such as Chief of Mission approval). We aren't able to hire clinicians living abroad outside of diplomatic or military orders.
How international practice works at A&C: Your US license doesn't extend to other countries, and many countries restrict professional titles. Our international clients complete additional informed consent and emergency-contact forms, and we follow dedicated emergency and crisis procedures for clients abroad. You'll be trained on all of this during onboarding, including how to talk with clients about privacy limits in their location.
Compensation
Licensed clinicians are W-2 employees who earn 60% of the clinical revenue they generate, rising to 72% at higher caseloads. Full-time clinicians typically earn $65,000–$110,000. Part-time earnings typically run $20,000–$55,000 depending on caseload. Health, dental and vision insurance are available to full-time employees. Why A&C Our admin team handles inquiries, intakes and scheduling and matches you with the clients you want. Our billing team handles claims and collections. You'll have a dedicated International Team lead and an in-person point of contact in Northern Virginia, plus weekly case consultation and trainings and coordinated care with in-house psychiatry and assessment.
Requirements
- Master's or doctoral degree in counseling, social work, marriage and family therapy, or psychology
- Active, independent license in Virginia, DC or Maryland (LPC, LCSW, LMFT or licensed psychologist)
- If living abroad: on US diplomatic or military orders, with first-hand experience as a Foreign Service or military family member
- Private, secure space and a reliable internet connection for telehealth
Preferred
- Licensed in two or more of Virginia, DC and Maryland
- Experience working with expat, Foreign Service or military families (required if living abroad)
