Machine Learning Engineer, Senior - Remote
About the Company
The company focuses on advancing computer vision and machine learning capabilities, with an emphasis on building models that can interpret images, extract structured information, and understand real-world visual context.
About the Role
We are looking for a highly technical, research-minded Machine Learning Engineer who enjoys developing and shipping models. This hands-on individual contributor role covers the full machine learning lifecycle, from early experimentation and model development to evaluation and production deployment. The work includes large-scale visual understanding, extracting meaningful attributes from imagery, and interpreting the context behind photographs. Strong machine learning and computer vision skills matter more than experience in any single application area, and engineers with broad technical expertise are welcome.
Key Responsibilities
Build, train, evaluate, and deploy computer vision and multimodal models, from early prototypes through production. Design systems that infer structured attributes and spatial context from images using learned models, geometric methods, and heuristic reasoning. Train and fine-tune models on large, diverse real-world image datasets, and build scalable pipelines for data curation and labeling. Work with vision-language models (VLMs) and develop rigorous evaluation frameworks to measure model accuracy on relevant tasks. Develop and benchmark high-performance image retrieval systems using embedding models and vector indexing strategies. Optimize models for inference latency and throughput using techniques such as distillation, quantization, and GPU acceleration. Review current research, prototype algorithms from academic literature, and translate promising ideas into reliable production code. Build efficient, scalable data pipelines and inference infrastructure. Develop high-performance tools for machine learning and data engineering.
Required Qualifications
Experience building, training, evaluating, and deploying machine learning models in production. Strong experience with PyTorch, JAX, or other deep learning frameworks for model development and optimization. Strong software engineering skills, including the ability to build and maintain complex systems and work with large-scale datasets. Ability to solve open-ended problems and learn new technical domains quickly. Ability to work independently with significant ownership and autonomy, making practical trade-offs among model complexity, development speed, inference performance, and business constraints. Bachelor’s, master’s, or doctoral degree in Computer Science or a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience extracting structured, real-world attributes from images. Experience training models on large-scale, real-world image datasets. Familiarity with vision-language models (VLMs). Ability to understand academic research, prototype new algorithms, and translate research into production-ready code. Experience building large language model (LLM) or VLM pipelines and evaluation frameworks to measure their performance. Experience in a machine learning role at a growth-stage startup. Publications in major machine learning or computer vision conferences, such as CVPR, ICML, ICCV, or WACV. Location and Work Arrangement This is a fully remote position.
Benefits
Medical, dental, and vision plans. Short-term disability (STD) and long-term disability (LTD) plans. Flexible spending accounts (FSA) for medical and dependent care. Employee Assistance Program (EAP) and wellness programs. 13 paid holidays. Unlimited paid time off (PTO). 401(k) plan.
