Who We Are Looking For We are looking for someone who is naturally curious, entrepreneurial and highly organized. You are a builder. You see a recurring problem and think: "There should be a system for this." You see a good idea and think: "Here's how we could actually make it happen." You see an inefficient process and think: "There must be a better way." You are comfortable with ambiguity and enjoy bringing structure to it. Required
- 3–7+ years of relevant experience in operations, project management, organizational development, business operations, consulting, nonprofit management or a related field.
- Exceptional organizational and project-management skills.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving ability.
- Excellent written and verbal communication.
- Strong technology skills.
- Ability to work independently.
- Ability to develop systems from the ground up.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and projects.
- Comfort working in a small, evolving organization.
- Strong judgment and initiative.
Preferred
- Experience with startups, small businesses or growing nonprofits.
- Entrepreneurial or business-development experience.
- Experience developing organizational systems.
- Experience with project-management software and CRMs.
- Experience with budgeting and financial planning.
- Experience developing new programs or revenue streams.
- International development experience.
- Experience working across cultures or with teams in Africa.
- Experience with volunteer travel or educational travel programs.
The Person We Hope to Find We are not looking for someone who needs to be told what to do every day. We are looking for someone who can look at the organization, understand the vision, identify what is missing and recommend what should happen next. You are equally comfortable thinking about a three-year growth strategy and building the project tracker needed to execute next month's priorities. You are a strong communicator, but you are also a doer. You take ownership of agreed projects and follow them through. Most importantly, you want to build something meaningful. A Long-Term Opportunity Although this is an independent consulting engagement, we hope to develop a long-term relationship with the right person. Kurunzi is entering an important period of growth, and the successful applicant will have an opportunity to grow alongside the organization and take increasing ownership of organizational development, strategic initiatives and growth projects. We hope to find someone who wants to become part of the Kurunzi Fund family and contribute to the organization's long-term future. Independent Contractor Relationship This position is structured as an independent consulting engagement rather than employment. The Organizational Growth Manager will determine how best to accomplish agreed objectives and deliverables, subject to reasonable coordination with Kurunzi's Founder/Executive Director and organizational requirements. The anticipated level of engagement is approximately 20 hours per week, averaging approximately 80–90 hours per month. Actual hours may vary according to agreed priorities and project needs. The Organizational Growth Manager will be responsible for their own taxes, insurance, equipment and other business expenses unless otherwise agreed in writing.
Compensation
Compensation will generally range from $35–$42 per hour, depending on experience, qualifications and the scope of the engagement. The Organizational Growth Manager may also be eligible for a performance-based incentive of up to $5,000 annually, based on mutually agreed organizational growth objectives and results. A potential annual Kenya mission trip may also be available based on performance, continued engagement and organizational needs.
