NSX / AVI Architect
Job Title: NSX / AVI Architect – VCF 9 & VKS Location: Remote – United States Duration: 6 Months/Extendable Pay Rate: $75–$80/hour We are seeking an experienced NSX / AVI Architect with strong expertise in VMware Cloud Foundation (VCF 9), NSX networking, AVI Load Balancer, and VMware Kubernetes Service (VKS). The ideal candidate will lead customer-facing architecture and design initiatives, translating business requirements into scalable, secure, and highly available network and application delivery solutions. This role involves leading discovery workshops, developing high-level and low-level designs, supporting Kubernetes networking and ingress evaluations, and guiding the implementation of modern VMware infrastructure solutions.
Key Responsibilities
Lead customer discovery sessions and technical design workshops to understand business and infrastructure requirements. Develop architecture diagrams, high-level designs (HLDs), low-level designs (LLDs), and deployment blueprints for NSX and AVI. Design and implement NSX networking and AVI Load Balancer solutions aligned with VMware best practices and validated architectures. Support VKS evaluations, including Kubernetes networking, ingress, Gateway API, and application delivery architecture. Provide guidance on AVI Controller deployment automation and AKO integration for supervisor and workload clusters. Collaborate with VKS and VCF architects to define networking and load balancing success criteria. Support AVI operationalization in VCF 9 and VKS environments, including traffic visibility and observability through AVI and VCF Operations. Develop migration strategies for transitioning from legacy NSX and traditional network architectures. Review and approve technical design artifacts to ensure alignment with reference architectures and customer objectives. Advise customers on architecture decisions, technical trade-offs, risks, and transformation roadmaps. Coordinate with architects, consultants, project managers, platform engineering teams, and implementation partners. Required Skills & Qualifications 8+ years of VMware experience, including hands-on architecture and design expertise. Strong experience designing and implementing VMware NSX and AVI Load Balancer solutions. Knowledge of VMware Cloud Foundation (VCF) 9.x, with hands-on experience in VCF 5.x and 9.x preferred. Strong understanding of: vSphere architecture NSX networking and workload domain design vSAN VCF Automation and VCF Operations VMware Kubernetes Service (VKS) Experience with Kubernetes networking, AVI Kubernetes Operator (AKO), ingress technologies, and Gateway API. Knowledge of BGP, OSPF, EVPN, physical fabric integration, and network convergence. Experience designing highly available, multi-region, and multi-site network architectures. Familiarity with hybrid cloud platforms, including VMware Cloud on AWS (VMC), Azure VMware Solution (AVS), and/or Google Cloud VMware Engine (GCVE). Experience with automation, infrastructure lifecycle management, and migration planning. Strong communication and presentation skills, with the ability to engage both technical teams and executive stakeholders. Ability to translate business requirements into technical specifications and comprehensive design documentation.
Preferred Qualifications
VMware Cloud Foundation Architect certification (2V0-13.25). VMware NSX certifications. VMware AVI Load Balancer certifications. Formal training or hands-on implementation experience with VCF 9. Experience with VMware Validated Solutions and Reference Architectures. Knowledge of containerization, enterprise automation, and infrastructure observability. Core Competencies Architecture & Design: NSX, AVI Load Balancer, VCF, VKS, multi-site networking. Kubernetes & Application Delivery: AKO, ingress, Gateway API, container networking. Networking: BGP, OSPF, EVPN, physical fabric integration, high availability. Documentation: HLDs, LLDs, architecture diagrams, deployment blueprints, risk assessments. Customer Engagement: Discovery workshops, technical presentations, stakeholder management, and architectural guidance. Migration & Lifecycle: Legacy network migration, AVI adoption, upgrades, and lifecycle planning.
