Part Time - Tax Manager | Remote | Flexible Hours
Finance Pals provides bookkeeping, tax and CFO help for startups and small business clients. We all wanted more than traditional jobs offered, so we built flexible, remote work that leaves room for life beyond work. We're looking for an experienced tax reviewer to join us as a contract Tax Manager. You'll mainly review returns prepared by our senior tax associates, clear review notes, sign and file them, and prepare a few returns of your own. Some of you run your own firm and want to keep your clients while filling out your workload without the billing and admin. Some of you want to scale back, or want part-time work around family. All of you are welcome. Desired result: our clients and our team love working with you. Returns go out accurate and on time, our preparers learn from your feedback, and you get time to enjoy your life. What you'll do
- Review returns prepared by our senior tax associates (individual and high net worth 1040s, trusts and estates 1041, nonprofits 990 and some business returns)
- Give clear, constructive review notes and help our preparers grow
- Sign returns as preparer with your active PTIN and file them, including extensions
- Prepare a few returns of your own
- Answer technical questions and flag planning opportunities

What we're looking for
- Several years of experience reviewing individual and business tax returns
- CPA or EA, with an active PTIN
- Experience with 1041, 990 and high net worth 1040 returns
- Intuit ProConnect review experience preferred; other professional tax software is fine if you learn quickly
- Bonus: tax planning, 1120, 1120S, 1065, Delaware and other state returns
- Bonus: comfort with AI tools (for example ChatGPT, Claude or Copilot) for research and drafting, plus the judgment to check their output. Not required.
- Availability of about [hours per week] during busy season
