Payroll Specialist

Tarvos Talent is seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Payroll Specialist for a fully remote contract opportunity. This role is ideal for a payroll professional with strong Certified Payroll and Prevailing Wage experience who is comfortable working in a highly manual payroll environment and understands the importance of accuracy and compliance. As the Payroll Specialist, you’ll be responsible for administering payroll requirements related to prevailing wage and union employees, including reviewing wage determinations, calculating base wages and fringe benefits, and ensuring compliance with federal, state, and local regulations. You’ll prepare and review Certified Payroll Reports, support Davis-Bacon and public works compliance, reconcile union contributions, and assist with payroll audits and compliance reviews. The ideal candidate will have hands-on Certified Payroll and Prevailing Wage experience — this is a must-have requirement — along with a strong understanding of union payroll, collective bargaining agreements, fringe benefit calculations, and wage and hour compliance. Experience with California DIR prevailing wage requirements is highly preferred. This role involves significant manual payroll processing, so candidates who are accustomed to highly automated payroll environments may not be the right fit. Strong Excel skills, attention to detail, and the ability to patiently work through repetitive and complex calculations are essential.
