You will be the first point of contact for inbound calls, handling complex clinical inquiries, and collaborating closely with our pharmacist team to deliver high‑quality service.

Why This Role Matters

Prior authorization is a critical checkpoint in the medication approval process. By ensuring that every request is evaluated accurately and efficiently, you help safeguard patient safety, reduce medication errors, and improve overall healthcare outcomes. Your work directly supports our clients’ mission to provide timely, cost‑effective care to patients across the country.

Key Responsibilities

  • Inbound Call Management: Handle high‑volume inbound calls from providers, pharmacies, and members, delivering professional, courteous, and empathetic assistance throughout the prior authorization workflow.
  • Documentation & Compliance: Maintain complete, accurate, and timely documentation of all review activities in our secure system, ensuring adherence to regulatory standards and internal policies.
  • Escalation & Collaboration: Identify clinical questions or judgment calls that require pharmacist input and facilitate seamless escalation to the pharmacist team.
  • Outbound Outreach: Conduct outbound calls as needed to follow up on pending authorizations, clarify information, and resolve outstanding issues.
  • Multi‑Channel Support: Review and process prior authorizations received via fax and electronic prior authorization (ePA) portals, and respond to inquiries through department mailboxes.
  • Continuous Improvement: Participate in process improvement initiatives, share best practices, and contribute to the development of training materials and knowledge bases.
  • Leadership Collaboration: Work closely with the call center leadership team to meet performance metrics, improve service quality, and support team goals.

Essential Qualifications

  • Minimum 1 year of inbound call center experience: Demonstrated ability to manage high‑volume, fast‑paced call environments.
  • Healthcare or pharmacy background: Experience in a pharmacy, PBM, medical office, or similar setting is highly valued.
  • Strong customer service skills: Excellent verbal communication, active listening, and conflict resolution abilities.
  • High School Diploma or GED: Required educational level.
  • Technical proficiency: Comfortable using multiple computer systems, databases, and call center software.
  • Attention to detail: Ability to maintain accuracy under pressure while meeting strict deadlines.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Pharmacy Technician certification or experience: A strong advantage for understanding medication terminology and workflow.
  • Knowledge of prior authorization processes: Familiarity with payer guidelines, formulary management, and insurance requirements.
  • Experience with electronic prior authorization (ePA) platforms: Ability to navigate and troubleshoot ePA systems.
  • Multilingual capabilities: Proficiency in Spanish or other languages is a plus.
  • Team collaboration: Proven track record of working effectively in cross‑functional teams.

Skills & Competencies

  • Communication Excellence: Clear, concise, and professional communication with diverse stakeholders.
  • Problem‑Solving: Analytical mindset to identify root causes and implement effective solutions.
  • Adaptability: Ability to thrive in a dynamic environment with evolving processes and technologies.
  • Time Management: Prioritize tasks, manage multiple priorities, and meet performance metrics.
  • Customer‑Centric Mindset: Commitment to delivering outstanding service and building lasting relationships.
