About the Role
Mango Voice is seeking an experienced Principal Backend Engineer to design, develop, and maintain cloud-native applications for its Business VoIP software platform. You will work within a small team of 3–5 engineers, building new features, improving existing systems, supporting escalations, participating in on-call rotations, and maintaining software and infrastructure. The role offers an opportunity to help shape the architecture of a unified Conversational AI and Communications Platform. A potential area of focus is developing AI-driven features and agentic systems for customer experience applications. You will also provide technical leadership and mentorship while working closely with Product, UX/Design, and engineering teams.
Key Responsibilities
Design and implement scalable, secure, and reliable APIs and routing logic, using Golang as the primary programming language. Write, test, and deploy production-ready code to enhance the platform, potentially focusing on data integrations with CRM, PMS, and EHR systems, as well as AI-driven workflows. Define the architectural direction of the unified Conversational AI and Communications Platform, ensuring performance and reliability in a high-volume environment. Collaborate with Product Management and engineering teams to refine user stories and deliver projects using the Shape Up framework. Manage the full software development lifecycle for assigned features, from technical design and implementation through deployment and maintenance. Monitor, troubleshoot, and resolve issues involving platform reliability, API performance, and response latency. Participate in on-call rotations and help resolve escalations and production issues. Maintain and improve AWS cloud infrastructure using automation tools. Work with engineering, UX/Design, and Product teams to ensure technical decisions support the intended user experience and product vision. Mentor junior engineers and provide technical guidance to support effective collaboration and engineering quality. Required Qualifications 10 or more years of software engineering experience, with a focus on backend development. Extensive experience with Golang (Go) and building high-volume, production-ready systems. Strong hands-on experience designing and building solutions on AWS, including services such as EC2, S3, RDS, Lambda, and CloudWatch. Strong understanding of microservices architecture, REST and gRPC API design, and scalability challenges. Experience designing efficient database schemas using relational SQL and NoSQL datastores. Proficiency in collaborative code management using Git and GitHub. Strong communication and teamwork skills, particularly in a remote work environment. A collaborative approach to engineering, with a focus on building systems that empower both individual contributors and the wider team.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience with Python. Experience designing and building autonomous or semi-autonomous software agents and AI-driven workflows. Familiarity with large language models (LLMs), prompt engineering, or agentic development frameworks such as LangChain and LlamaIndex. Experience with VoIP technologies such as SIP, RTP, or WebRTC, or messaging technologies such as SMS, MMS, and RCS. Experience automating CI/CD, server management, and migrations using tools such as Terraform, Ansible, and Bash. Experience developing software for the healthcare industry, with a strong understanding of HIPAA compliance and security requirements.
