Project Manager - Data Center Migration
Job Title: Project Manager - Data Center Migration Location: Remote (US) Duration: Long Term Job Summary We are seeking an experienced Data Center Migration Project Manager to lead and manage end-to-end data center migration initiatives. This role involves planning, coordinating, and executing the migration of infrastructure, applications, and services from legacy environments to new data centers or cloud platforms, ensuring minimal disruption to business operations.
Key Responsibilities
Lead full lifecycle data center migration projects including planning, execution, and closure Develop detailed project plans, timelines, and migration runbooks Coordinate with cross-functional teams including infrastructure, network, security, and application teams Manage rack decommissioning, server migration, and asset tracking Oversee physical and logical migration activities (server relocation, storage, network connectivity) Identify dependencies, risks, and mitigation strategies Work with stakeholders to ensure change management and communication plans are followed Validate network connectivity, firewall rules, and port configurations during migration Ensure proper documentation of legacy systems and migration activities Monitor project progress and provide regular status updates to leadership Ensure compliance with security, regulatory, and operational standards Coordinate with vendors, data center providers, and on-site teams Required Skills & Qualifications Bachelor's degree in IT, Computer Science, or related field (or equivalent experience) 7+ years of experience in IT infrastructure project management Proven experience managing data center migration or consolidation projects Strong understanding of: Data center infrastructure (servers, storage, networking) Rack/stack, cabling, and hardware lifecycle Network connectivity, firewalls, and ports Experience with change management processes Strong stakeholder management and communication skills Familiarity with project management tools (JIRA, MS Project, Smartsheet, etc.)
Preferred Qualifications
Experience with cloud migrations (AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud Platform) Certifications such as: PMP (Project Management Professional) ITIL Experience in automation and infrastructure modernization projects Knowledge of virtualization platforms (VMware, Hyper-V)
