[Remote] Controller - Merchant Cash Advance / Revenue Based Financing (MCA/RBF)

Note: The job is a remote job and is open to candidates in USA. Luminar Capital provides financing solutions to small businesses through merchant cash advances and revenue-based financing. The Controller oversees financial accounting and reporting for MCA/RBF portfolios, maintains controls and compliance, and partners with operations and underwriting on reporting, forecasting, and budgeting.

Responsibilities

• The Controller will oversee all aspects of financial accounting and reporting for MCA/RBF portfolios, including daily reconciliations, general ledger maintenance, and month-end close activities
• The role includes monitoring cash flows, tracking advance performance, and ensuring accurate recognition of revenue, fees, and reserves
• The Controller will implement and refine internal controls, support audits, and ensure compliance with relevant accounting standards and regulatory requirements
• Day-to-day responsibilities also involve partnering with operations and underwriting teams, preparing management reports and KPI dashboards, and contributing to forecasting and budgeting to support strategic decision-making

Skills

• Strong accounting and finance skills, including general ledger management, financial reporting, and month-end close
• Experience in merchant cash advance, revenue-based financing, or related alternative lending products, including portfolio and cash flow analysis is required
• Knowledge of internal controls, compliance, and audit processes, with the ability to design and maintain effective control frameworks
• Proficiency with accounting and financial systems (e.g., QuickBooks, NetSuite, or similar), spreadsheets, and data analysis tools
• Ability to interpret complex financial information, prepare clear management reports, and present insights to leadership
• Strong organizational skills, attention to detail
• Effective written and verbal communication skills, with a collaborative approach to working across finance, operations, and leadership teams
• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field is required
• CPA or similar certification is preferred
• Prior experience in a high-growth, entrepreneurial, or fintech environment is beneficial
