[Remote] Linux System Engineer

CornerStone Technology Talent Services is seeking a Senior Splunk & Linux Systems Engineer to support a secure, enterprise-grade infrastructure. The role involves managing Splunk and Linux systems, ensuring mission-critical systems are monitored and running efficiently in a highly regulated environment.

Responsibilities

• Maintain and monitor Splunk Enterprise in a Linux cluster environment
• Manage indexes, data sources, and log pipelines
• Onboard new servers and log sources (Linux & Windows)
• Develop advanced dashboards and train teams on usage
• Upgrade Splunk Enterprise and Universal Forwarders
• Identify and implement architecture improvements
• Manage Linux servers supporting Splunk clusters
• Oversee file systems, permissions, and configurations
• Use automation tools like Ansible or SaltStack
• Version control with Git or Bitbucket
• Create Bash scripts to improve operational efficiency
• Troubleshoot log ingestion, indexing, and search performance issues
• Partner with other system admins to deploy forwarders and validate log flow
• Mentor junior engineers and share best practices
• Contribute to initiatives that optimize infrastructure and monitoring
• Operate in a secure, compliance-driven environment (CUI)
• Follow strict workstation and access control standards
• Be eligible to work in secure virtual desktop environments Skills
• 5+ years Splunk Enterprise administration in production
• 5+ years Linux systems administration
• 5+ years Bash scripting and automation
• Strong knowledge of distributed Splunk architecture
• Experience with enterprise log pipelines and troubleshooting
• Working in VDI-based environments
• Supporting research, higher education, or regulated enterprise systems
• Improving Splunk architecture for scalability and performance
• Associate degree or equivalent experience
