We are a fast‑growing, remote‑first organization that thrives on innovation, collaboration, and a relentless focus on impact.

Why This Role Matters

As a Remote Pharmacy Technician – Prior Authorization Specialist, you become the frontline guardian of medication access. Your daily interactions—whether answering inbound calls from prescribers, reviewing coverage criteria, or coordinating with pharmacists—directly influence patient outcomes, provider satisfaction, and the overall efficiency of the healthcare ecosystem. In a fast‑paced, data‑driven environment, your expertise turns complex authorization challenges into seamless solutions, making a tangible difference from anywhere in the United States.

Key Responsibilities

  • Inbound Call Management: Receive, triage, and resolve calls from healthcare providers, pharmacies, and members, delivering professional, courteous assistance throughout the prior authorization process. You will be the first point of contact, setting the tone for a smooth experience.
  • Documentation Excellence: Maintain complete, timely, and accurate records of all reviews, ensuring compliance with regulatory standards and internal quality metrics. Your meticulous documentation supports audit readiness and continuous improvement.
  • Clinical Escalation: Identify and forward clinical questions, escalations, and judgment calls to the pharmacist team for expert resolution. You will collaborate closely with clinical staff to ensure the best therapeutic outcomes.
  • Outbound Outreach: Conduct proactive outreach to providers and pharmacies to clarify coverage criteria, follow up on pending authorizations, and promote best practices. Your outreach helps reduce turnaround times and improves provider satisfaction.
  • Fax & ePA Processing: Review and process prior authorizations received via fax and electronic prior authorization (ePA) portals, ensuring data integrity and timely action. You will troubleshoot technical issues and ensure accurate data capture.
  • Cross‑Functional Collaboration: Monitor and respond to inquiries via department mailboxes, collaborate with leadership on workflow improvements, and support ad‑hoc projects as needed. Your teamwork drives operational excellence.
  • Continuous Improvement: Participate in training sessions, share insights on process enhancements, and contribute to the development of knowledge bases and SOPs. Your feedback fuels innovation and efficiency.

Essential Qualifications

  • Experience: Minimum 1 year of inbound call center experience, preferably in healthcare or a related field. Demonstrated ability to handle high‑volume, high‑stakes interactions.
  • Education: High School Diploma or GED; additional certifications (e.g., Pharmacy Technician, Certified Pharmacy Technician) are a plus and reflect a commitment to professional growth.
  • Customer Service Orientation: Strong customer service orientation with excellent verbal and written communication skills. You should be able to empathize with providers and patients alike.
  • Technical Proficiency: Proficiency with call center software, electronic health record (EHR) systems, and Microsoft Office Suite. Familiarity with CRM platforms and data entry tools is advantageous.
  • Clinical Knowledge: Ability to interpret clinical guidelines, formulary policies, and insurance coverage criteria. A solid understanding of medication classes and therapeutic indications is essential.
  • Organizational Skills: Detail‑oriented, organized, and capable of managing multiple tasks simultaneously while maintaining accuracy and meeting service level agreements (SLAs).

Preferred Qualifications

  • Pharmacy Experience: Experience as a Pharmacy Technician or in a pharmacy, medical office, or PBM environment. Hands‑on knowledge of medication dispensing and pharmacy operations is highly valued.
  • Insurance & PBM Insight: Knowledge of insurance, pharmacy benefit manager (PBM) workflows, and prior authorization regulations. Understanding payer policies will accelerate your learning curve.
  • Technology Savvy: Familiarity with ePA platforms and fax processing tools. Ability to troubleshoot basic technical issues and navigate multiple software platforms.
  • Remote Work Experience: Previous experience in a remote or virtual call center setting. Comfort with virtual collaboration tools and self‑management is critical.
  • Independent & Collaborative: Demonstrated ability to work independently while maintaining strong collaboration with team members, managers, and cross‑functional stakeholders.
