[Remote] Senior Software Engineer

Note: The job is a remote job and is open to candidates in USA. Hampton North is partnering with a well-established insurance and financial services group to hire a Senior Software Engineer. The role focuses on building and maintaining backend services, APIs, and event-driven systems for a cloud-native annuity platform while collaborating with product teams, business stakeholders, and leadership.

Responsibilities

• Joining a self-sufficient, full-stack product team with its own frontend, backend, data, product, design and scrum support
• Designing and building backend services, APIs and event-driven systems using Kotlin, GraphQL/REST, PostgreSQL and Kafka
• Owning key parts of the annuity platform across areas such as policy lifecycle, workflow and case management, or agent commissions
• Contributing across the stack where needed, including Angular on the frontend
• Collaborating daily with business stakeholders and leadership in a fast-moving, senior-heavy team

Skills

• Senior-level software engineering experience with a track record of building scalable, maintainable backend systems
• Strong expertise in Kotlin, or another object-oriented language such as Java, C# or Scala
• Experience with GraphQL and REST APIs, PostgreSQL, and Kafka
• Experience in both fast-paced startup-style and larger enterprise environments
• Adaptability: you learn how things work before pushing change
• Excellent communication skills, which are essential for this role
• Authorization to work in the US without current or future sponsorship (no third-party agencies or 1099)
• Angular and Snowflake experience is a plus
• Fintech, insurtech or financial services experience strongly preferred
