Remote Position
[Remote] Senior Software Engineer II
π Remote Β· United States
πΌ Full-time
Note: The job is a remote job and is open to candidates in USA. Samsara builds software for connected physical operations. The Senior Software Engineer II will define and deliver full-stack AI-powered products and platform capabilities, own mission-critical technical areas, and guide technical strategy and engineering quality.
Responsibilities
- Take ownership of technically complex, mission-critical areas and run with them. We want to point you in a direction and show up to the demo meeting impressed, not spend our weeks managing the details
- Define and drive technical strategy for new products and platform capabilities, from backend services and APIs to the customer-facing UI
- Design and ship full-stack features end to end. You'll work across backend, frontend, and potentially mobile to deliver AI-powered products that solve real operational problems
- Partner with product, design, and customer-facing teams to translate ambiguous, real-world problems into clear technical plans and measurable outcomes
- Build and scale the systems behind AI-driven products, including data ingestion, APIs, and the workflows that put intelligence into the hands of operators
- Raise the bar for the engineers around you through code reviews, design reviews, technical mentorship, and by setting a standard for quality, velocity, and craft
- Champion, role model, and embed Samsaraβs cultural principles (Focus on Customer Success, Build for the Long Term, Adopt a Growth Mindset, Be Inclusive, Win as a Team) as we scale globally and across new offices
Skills
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent practical experience
- 8+ years of experience in software design and development, including building and operating production systems at scale
- Strong full-stack fundamentals. You're comfortable working across backend services, APIs, and frontend (web or mobile) to ship complete products
- Proficiency in modern languages and frameworks (Go, Python, TypeScript/JavaScript, React, or similar)
- Demonstrated experience leading cross-team or cross-org projects from inception through rollout, including managing ambiguity, driving alignment, and delivering measurable impact
- Experience building AI-powered or data-driven products. You don't need to train models, but you know how to take AI capabilities and turn them into products customers love
- Strong communication skills and the ability to translate between technical and non-technical stakeholders
- A track record of building: zero-to-one products, systems you left in a meaningfully better place, or hard problems you refused to let stay unsolved
- Experience shipping AI-powered features in production, whether that's LLM-based products, agentic workflows, recommendation systems, or other customer-facing AI
- Comfort with modern AI-augmented development workflows (Cursor, LLMs, etc.) to multiply your output and accelerate delivery
- Background working with real-world operational data (telematics, sensor data, work orders, inspections) or a strong interest in learning the domain
- A proven track record of mentoring senior engineers and influencing engineering culture, standards, and best practices beyond a single team
- Side projects, open-source contributions, or other signals of curiosity and drive outside the scope of your day job
Benefits
- Initial RSU grant with no vesting cliff, and ongoing refresh opportunities tied to performance, subject to plan terms and conditions.
- Performance-based bonus/variable pay.
- A flexible, employee-led remote model.
- A professional development stipend.
- Comprehensive health plans.
- Parental leave plans.
