Note: The job is a remote job and is open to candidates in USA. Peraton is a national security company and enterprise IT provider supporting government agencies and the U.S. armed forces. The Software Engineer will design, develop, test, and maintain Java-based enterprise applications, APIs, and scalable microservices while supporting cybersecurity compliance, troubleshooting, documentation, and junior developer mentorship.
Responsibilities
- Design, develop, and maintain Java-based enterprise applications using modern frameworks like Spring Boot
- Lead or contribute to the design and architecture of modular, scalable systems
- Develop robust APIs and integrate distributed components in a microservices environment
- Conduct unit, integration, and functional testing to ensure high-quality code
- Support vulnerability remediation and ensure systems meet cybersecurity compliance standards
- Troubleshoot complex issues across multiple systems and environments
- Participate in code reviews and mentor junior developers as needed
- Produce clear and concise technical documentation and support materials
Skills
- Strong experience with Java, object-oriented design, and Spring Boot
- Familiarity with enterprise integration patterns and service-oriented architectures
- Hands-on experience with SQL Oracle RBDMS and MongoDB databases
- Deep understanding of REST APIs, HTTP protocols, and web technologies (HTML, JavaScript, WebSocket, CSS)
- Experience designing, building, and consuming RESTful APIs
- Comfortable working in Linux environments and using command-line tools
- Proficiency with version control systems such as Git and code reviews
- Proficiency with build tools like Maven
- Working knowledge of Docker, Kubernetes, and CI/CD pipelines
- Exposure to cloud platforms like Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI) or AWS
- 5 years with BS/BA; 3 years with MS/MA; 0 years with PhD
- Cybersecurity workforce certification AIM/IAT Level II (e.g., Security+)
- Active Public Trust Clearance
- Experience with Java-based enterprise applications using modern frameworks like Spring Boot
- Familiarity with Angular or other front-end frameworks
- Experience with Oracle Cloud, especially in a government environment
- Understanding of AI/ML fundamentals or interest in learning
- Awareness of prompt engineering concepts for LLM applications
- Ability to mentor junior team members and contribute to best practices
