Note: The job is a remote job and is open to candidates in USA. Katmai provides mission-system support for Navy and federal operations. The Software Engineer II develops and sustains applications for fleet training, operational readiness, and logistics while supporting data integrations, secure software practices, and DoD cybersecurity compliance.
Responsibilities
- Design, develop, test, and deploy microservices, APIs, and user interfaces supporting fleet training workflows and readiness analytics
- Integrate applications with FTM data sources; implement role-based access and audit logging
- Write unit/integration tests; participate in code reviews and CI/CD pipelines
- Produce technical documentation and contribute to configuration management baselines
- Support Authority to Operate (ATO) sustainment tasks (STIGs, HBSS/ESS, SCAP scans)
- Maintain regular and punctual attendance
- Perform other duties as assigned
Skills
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience, with three (3) to five (5) years of software development experience
- Proficient in one or more of the following: Python, Java, .NET, JavaScript/TypeScript, SQL
- Experience with REST/GraphQL, containers (Docker), and Git
- Familiarity with DoD RMF, STIGs, and secure coding practices
- Experience producing status reports, staffing plans, and risk communications
- Active DoD Secret Security Clearance (generally, U.S. citizenship required)
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Cloud fluency (AWS or Azure), including certification such as AWS Cloud Practitioner
- Experience supporting Department of War or comparable federal agency or systems
- Kubernetes, message queues, ETL for FTM-aligned data, ELK/Splunk, Jira/Confluence
