[Remote] Software Engineer III - Front End/Back End

The Software Engineer III - Front End/Back End supports software delivery by developing and maintaining applications, diagnosing system issues, contributing to architecture and planning, mentoring junior developers, and improving engineering processes.

Responsibilities

• Estimates and completes development tasks including coding, requirements gathering, and analysis with a little feedback and guidance from their team
• Practices technical and communications skills to improve context knowledge and mentor junior developers
• Assesses and diagnoses issues with the systems they own, prioritizing problem areas based on alignment with other practice areas
• Participates in on-call rotations with their team as necessary
• Presents on and writes about their work to both internal and external parties
• Participates in planning sessions, building understanding of major architectures and design patterns
• Supports recruiting efforts by evaluating homework assignments and potentially assisting with interviews
• Exhibits influential skills to drive improvements in team engineering processes and practices
• Exhibits a comprehensive understanding of the business, how practices interact, and what customer problems we're solving

Skills

• Bachelor's degree and 5+ years of professional software engineering experience
• Relevant professional experience may be substituted for education where permitted
• Demonstrated advanced-level knowledge in at least one technical discipline, including front-end, back-end, full-stack, or infrastructure engineering
• Experience designing, developing, testing, and maintaining production software applications
• Experience troubleshooting complex technical issues and contributing to scalable, maintainable software solutions
• Demonstrated ability to communicate technical concepts effectively to both technical and non-technical audiences
• Must meet any applicable contractual or labor category requirements related to education and professional experience
• Experience working across both front-end and back-end technologies in a full-stack environment
• Experience designing, building, and maintaining modern web applications and APIs
• Experience with modern JavaScript frameworks such as React, Angular, or Vue
• Experience with back-end technologies such as Java, Python, Node.js, or similar languages and frameworks
• Experience working with relational and/or NoSQL databases
• Familiarity with cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud
• Experience with CI/CD pipelines, automated testing, and modern software development practices
• Experience working in Agile or iterative development environments
• Experience mentoring engineers or providing technical guidance within a development team
• Experience collaborating directly with clients, product teams, designers, and other technical stakeholders
• Experience supporting government or federal programs
• Familiarity with accessibility, security, performance, and scalable application design practices
