Remote Position
[Remote] Sr. Design Engineer
π Remote Β· United States
πΌ Full-time
Note: The job is a remote job and is open to candidates in USA. RCM Technologies, Inc. is a business and technology solutions provider serving industries including life sciences, healthcare, engineering, aerospace and defense, and process and industrial markets. The company is seeking a Senior Design Engineer to perform field surveys, develop preliminary MEP designs, produce CAD documentation, coordinate with other disciplines, and provide construction support for client projects.
Responsibilities
- Plan and perform field surveys and scoping walk-downs at client sites with minimal supervision (ceiling spaces, mechanical/electrical rooms, roofs, utility areas); take and record field dimensions and verify existing conditions for HVAC, power distribution, lighting, plumbing, and fire protection systems, including equipment nameplate data, panel schedules, and duct/piping/conduit routing
- Produce field sketches, marked-up drawings, photographs, and written field reports complete enough for the engineer and CAD staff to proceed without a return visit; compare existing drawings against actual conditions and identify discrepancies and design constraints
- Under direction of the Senior MEP Engineer, develop preliminary layouts and conceptual designs (equipment locations, duct/piping routing, riser diagrams, one-line diagrams, lighting/power layouts, plumbing/fire protection layouts); perform routine sizing and supporting calculations (duct/pipe sizing, panel load summaries, voltage drop) and prepare equipment/fixture schedules
- Determine material quantities and estimate design hours to support scoping, proposals, and project budgets
- Prepare projects for CAD production (drawing list, sheet setup, backgrounds, title blocks, markup packages per client/RCM standards); produce and revise MEP drawings in AutoCAD, and in Revit as required, including plans, sections, details, schedules, riser diagrams, and one-line diagrams
- Coordinate with architectural, structural, process, and other disciplines to resolve interferences before drawings are issued
- Check own work and the work of other designers/drafters for accuracy, completeness, and compliance with client and RCM standards before engineering review; maintain revision control and document records per the RCM Quality Assurance (QA) Program
- Provide onsite construction support (site walk-downs, RFI responses, dimensional/coordination review of shop drawings and submittals, as-built and record drawings); serve as the day-to-day field point of contact with client facilities, maintenance, and engineering staff, following site safety, access, and change-control procedures in cGMP-regulated environments; adhere to assigned budgets/schedules and communicate status to the Senior MEP Engineer; and, as CAD staff are added, prepare markup packages, provide guidance, and assign work to designers/drafters, promoting quality, accountability, and consistent drafting standards
Skills
- Associate degree in Engineering Technology, Drafting and Design, or a related technical field, or a Bachelor's degree in Engineering (equivalent education and experience may be considered); minimum 8 years of progressively responsible MEP design and drafting experience, including field survey and existing-condition work in industrial, commercial, healthcare, or other complex facility environments
- Proven ability to work independently at client sites with minimal supervision, organize field and office work, and exercise sound judgment about what information the engineer needs
- Proficiency in AutoCAD required
- Proficient with Bluebeam Revu for markups and takeoffs, Microsoft Office, and spreadsheets; skilled with field measurement and documentation tools, including laser distance meters and digital photo documentation
- Valid driver's license and reliable transportation required for site visits and field support assignments
- Fully bilingual English/Spanish, spoken and written, required for Puerto Rico client, contractor, and field coordination; ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing, on technical and non-technical subjects with engineers, clients, and contractors
- Working knowledge of IBC, the 2018 Puerto Rico Building Code (based on the 2018 IBC) and its companion ICC 2018-edition codes, NEC, NFPA 13, NFPA 101, and ASHRAE standards; working knowledge of HVAC, power distribution, lighting, plumbing, and fire protection systems sufficient to develop preliminary layouts and schedules for engineer review
- Revit MEP experience preferred
- Life Sciences experience (pharmaceutical, biotechnology, and medical device manufacturing plants, laboratories, and cleanrooms regulated by the FDA) preferred
- Experience with Revit MEP, Navisworks, and clash detection, and familiarity with laser scanning and point cloud data, a plus
- Autodesk Certified Professional (AutoCAD or Revit), a drafting/engineering technology certificate, or similar credentials desirable
- OSHA 10-Hour certification preferred
Benefits
- 401K
