Note: The job is a remote job and is open to candidates in USA. Tria Federal delivers digital services and technology solutions supporting the health and safety of veterans, service members, and civilians. The Software Engineer will build, enhance, and maintain API services, backend systems, and integrations for the VA’s Beneficiary Travel Self-Service System, collaborating with cross-functional teams in agile sprints.
Responsibilities
- Enhance and maintain Travel Pay API, Claim Ingest API, and backend systems supporting BTSSS
- Develop integrations with VA.gov, the VA API ecosystem (vets-api), mobile apps, and staff-facing tools
- Implement performant, secure, and reliable services for automated claim adjudication and processing
- Support two-week sprint delivery through coding, testing, and documentation
- Participate in code reviews, pair programming, and continuous improvement activities
- Collaborate with DevOps to support CI/CD workflows and zero-downtime deployments
- Troubleshoot production issues and participate in on-call escalations where needed
- Ensure all work adheres to VA standards including 508 accessibility, security, and authoritative data usage
Skills
- Ability to successfully obtain a U.S. Federal Position of Trust clearance designation
- Must reside in and be able to perform work in the United States
- Must have lived in the United States for 3 of the last 5 years
- Bachelor's Degree in a related field
- Experience in backend service development using modern programming languages
- Familiarity with RESTful APIs, integrations, and asynchronous processing
- Understanding of cloud deployment patterns and automated testing
- Ability to troubleshoot production issues in collaboration with cross-functional teams
- Strong focus on code quality, maintainability, and security
