Note: The job is a remote job and is open to candidates in USA. Howrecruit is partnering with a fast-growing business communications company that is rethinking the business phone system. The Staff Backend Engineer will shape the architecture for the public API, MCP, OAuth, webhooks, and integrations while enabling rapid API and SDK generation. The role also guides a small experienced team, mentors senior engineers, and influences decisions across engineering, product, partnerships, and leadership.
Responsibilities
- Own the architecture behind the public API, MCP, OAuth, webhooks and integrations with tools like HubSpot, Jobber and Clio
- Enable any product team to bring a feature to the public API in a day or two, with APIs and SDKs generated from product definitions
- Guide a small, experienced team that owns its infrastructure end to end, mentor senior engineers and influence decisions across engineering, product, partnerships and leadership
Skills
- Spent 10+ years in engineering, with proven experience at Staff level
- Built public APIs, developer platforms, SDKs or webhooks for a commercial product
- Led cross-team change in an organization of 100+ engineers
- Helped a company navigate Series B into growth
- Stayed comfortable owning infrastructure alongside application code
