Remote Veterans Disability Hearing Attorney
Sick of Family law clients who are never happy with your results? Same Skills. Clients Who Are Glad You Are There. Jackson & MacNichol is a 120-person law firm dedicated entirely to helping U.S. military veterans secure the VA disability benefits they have earned. We are hiring attorneys, and family law practitioners arrive with more transferable skill than they expect. Family law teaches you to handle dense documentary records, work with clients in genuine distress, negotiate with an adversary, and keep a large caseload moving. All of that applies here. What changes is the emotional arithmetic: there is no opposing client to manage and no animosity to referee. You and your client want exactly the same thing, and the party on the other side is a federal agency. What the work looks like · Represent veteran clients before VA Regional Offices, the Board of Veterans' Appeals, or the U.S. Court of Appeals for Veterans Claims · Use the documentation, client-counseling, and case-management skills you already have — for clients who are rooting for you · Carry your own caseload working with a case managers and a firm focused on one well-understood practice area · Deliver outcomes clients thank you for — including retroactive awards that can be life-changing An honest note: the work is demanding in its own way. Cases require patience, thorough preparation, and persistence through a slow federal system. But our attorneys tell us they finish most cases feeling appreciated rather than drained. What we require · Experience managing your own caseload and client relationships · Strong document-intensive case preparation skills · No prior VA or veterans law experience required; we train you · Admission to and good standing with the bar of any U.S. state or territory (VA practice is federal — we do not require admission in a particular state, and we handle VA accreditation after you join) · Excellent written and oral advocacy skills, and strong legal research skills · A reliable home workspace and internet connection Above all, applicants must embody our core values: application of the Golden Rule, compassion, the constant pursuit of excellence, and decisiveness. Our clients are veterans navigating a slow and often frustrating federal process, and they need an advocate with the patience and persistence to see it through with them. Location Fully remote. We hire anywhere in the Eastern or Central time zones. All VA hearings are conducted by video or telephone — there is no required travel. Compensation & Benefits · $80,000 starting salary · Automatic increase to $85,000 upon reaching a full caseload — typically within six months (a full caseload is 15 hearings per month) · Health insurance medical / dental / vision; employer pays 100% for basic plan · 401(k) eligibility after one year 5 percent employer match · Vacation plus 15 paid holidays · Bar dues, CLE, and VA accreditation costs covered If you are ready for clients who see you as an ally instead of a target, we would love to hear from you.
