SBA Attorney
We are seeking an experienced SBA Attorney to join a fully remote legal team focused on tax controversy, federal debt resolution, and government collection matters. The ideal candidate will have 3+ years of relevant legal experience handling SBA loan defaults, debt resolution, tax controversy, bankruptcy, creditor rights, or commercial collections. This role involves advising businesses and individuals, negotiating with government agencies, and developing strategic solutions to resolve complex financial disputes.
Responsibilities
Manage cases involving SBA loan defaults, EIDL and PPP-related issues, Treasury collections, guarantor liability, and federal debt resolution. Review loan documents, personal guarantees, collateral agreements, financial statements, and business records to evaluate client liabilities and available resolution options. Represent clients in negotiations with the Small Business Administration (SBA), U.S. Treasury Department, lenders, and other federal agencies to pursue settlements, repayment arrangements, hardship relief, and compromises. Draft legal correspondence, demand responses, administrative appeals, settlement submissions, and supporting documentation while conducting legal research on federal lending regulations and collection procedures. Advise business owners on legal rights, liabilities, and resolution strategies; independently manage a remote caseload; collaborate with legal support teams; and maintain accurate records and compliance with applicable legal and ethical standards.
Qualifications
Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an accredited law school. Active license and good standing in at least one U.S. state. 3+ years of relevant legal experience in SBA loan matters, creditor rights, debt resolution, tax controversy, bankruptcy, commercial collections, or related practice areas. Strong legal research, writing, negotiation, and analytical skills. Experience working directly with government agencies and managing client matters independently. Excellent client communication and relationship-building abilities. Ability to explain complex legal and financial matters clearly and develop practical resolution strategies.
