About brighthush

brighthush has been a beacon of hope in the mental‑health landscape for over three decades. Founded in 1987 as a modest crisis line in Arizona, we have evolved into a nationwide network that delivers compassionate, evidence‑based care through chat, text, and phone. Our mission is simple yet powerful: Help is always just a message away, no matter where you are. We specialize in bridging critical gaps for underserved populations, ensuring that every individual—regardless of geography, language, or socioeconomic status—has access to immediate, culturally sensitive support.

At brighthush, the strength of our organization lies in the diversity, expertise, and dedication of our team. We celebrate equity, inclusion, and the unique perspectives each member brings. Whether you are a seasoned crisis worker or a passionate newcomer, you will find a dynamic environment where your skills are nurtured, your voice is heard, and your impact is tangible.

Why This Role Matters

The mental‑health landscape is becoming increasingly complex, and the demand for skilled, bilingual crisis responders has never been higher. As a Part‑Time Bilingual Crisis Response Therapist, you will be the first line of support for individuals reaching out via chat or text. Your timely, culturally attuned interventions can transform a moment of crisis into a moment of hope. Working from the comfort of your own home, you will help bridge access gaps and ensure that help is always just a message away.

In a world where digital communication is the norm, your role will be pivotal in ensuring that no one is left unheard. You will provide a lifeline to those who may feel isolated, anxious, or in immediate danger, and you will do so with empathy, professionalism, and a deep respect for cultural nuances.

Key Responsibilities

  • Responsive Communication: Promptly answer all chat and text inquiries, maintaining a professional tone while meeting agency efficiency and satisfaction metrics.
  • Clinical Assessment: Conduct thorough, evidence‑based assessments of each participant’s mental state, risk factors, and immediate needs.
  • Intervention & Safety Planning: Deliver safe, effective therapeutic interventions, including safety planning, coping strategies, and crisis de‑escalation techniques.
  • Documentation & Reporting: Complete detailed, accurate clinical documentation in real time, ensuring compliance with data collection standards and funder reporting requirements.
  • Referral Coordination: Identify and forward appropriate referrals to internal programs or external services, ensuring all necessary information is transmitted in a timely manner.
  • Shift Flexibility: Work scheduled shifts (11:00 pm–3:00 am Mon & Tues or 9:00 pm–7:00 am Fri & Sat) with the understanding that crisis situations may require extended coverage beyond the scheduled hours.
  • Team Collaboration: Engage collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders, maintaining a positive, flexible attitude to support colleagues and clients alike.
  • Continuous Learning: Attend all required trainings, meetings, and professional development sessions—even if they fall outside regular shift times—to stay current with best practices and regulatory updates.
  • Quality Assurance: Assist the clinical coordinator in training new staff, reviewing documentation, and implementing quality improvement initiatives.
  • Operational Excellence: Ensure the chat environment is clean, organized, and fully stocked with necessary forms and resources; complete any assigned projects that benefit the crisis or related departments.

Essential Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Psychology, Counseling, Social Work, or a closely related field.
  • Proficiency in both Spanish and English (written and spoken); a Spanish Language Proficiency Test must be passed.
  • Experience in crisis intervention, call center operations, or chat/text support is highly desirable.
  • Demonstrated ability to remain calm, composed, and empathetic in high‑pressure situations.
  • Strong teamwork skills, with a track record of collaborating effectively with multidisciplinary teams.
  • Fingerprint clearance card or eligibility to obtain one.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Prior experience in mental or behavioral health settings, especially within suicide prevention or crisis hotlines.
  • Certification or training in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), or other evidence‑based crisis interventions.
  • Familiarity with electronic health record (EHR) systems and data reporting tools.
  • Experience working with diverse populations, including LGBTQ+ individuals, people of color, and those with varying cultural backgrounds.

Core Skills & Competencies

  • Communication: Clear, concise, and compassionate verbal and written communication in both languages.
  • Technology Proficiency: Comfortable navigating chat platforms, text messaging systems, and basic troubleshooting.
  • Problem‑Solving: Strong analytical skills to assess risk, develop intervention plans, and adapt strategies in real time.
  • Documentation: Ability to capture detailed, accurate clinical notes under time constraints.
  • Multitasking: Manage multiple chat threads simultaneously while maintaining quality of care.
  • Empathy & Cultural Sensitivity: Relate positively to individuals of all ages, races, genders, and orientations.
  • Professionalism: Adhere to ethical standards, confidentiality protocols, and agency policies, even when working remotely.

  • Mentorship from senior clinicians and a structured pathway to advanced roles such as Clinical Supervisor, Program Manager, or Director of Crisis Services.
  • Opportunities to contribute to research, policy development, and community outreach initiatives.
  • Tuition and licensure reimbursement programs to support your continued education and certification pursuits.
  • Access to a robust library of peer‑reviewed journals, webinars, and conference sponsorships.

  • Recognition of achievements through awards, shout‑outs, and career advancement opportunities.
  • Celebration of diversity, equity, and inclusion through ongoing training and community engagement.

While the base hourly rate is competitive, we also offer a bilingual differential pay to recognize the added value of dual‑language proficiency. In addition to your hourly wage, you will receive:

  • Flexible scheduling that accommodates your personal commitments.
  • Access to a comprehensive benefits package for full‑time employees, including medical, dental, vision, and retirement plans.
  • Paid time off (PTO) and paid holidays for full‑time staff.
  • Life insurance, long‑term disability, and optional short‑term disability coverage.
  • Pet insurance, elder care assistance, and other wellness perks.
  • Professional development funds for tuition and licensure reimbursement.
