Senior Full Stack Application Engineer

🌍 Remote · United States 💼 Full-time

Senior Full Stack Application Developer with Frontend and UI Experience Location: Remote Department: Engineering ABOUT GNQ GNQ Insilico is a California-based precision medicine TechBio company building the next generation of AI-powered clinical decision support. Our BioAvatar Platform integrates multi-omics data, a proprietary pathways-driven systems biology knowledge graph, causal inference engines, and quantum-enhanced molecular simulation to deliver patient-specific therapy predictions for oncology, neurodegenerative disease, and others. We are a team of scientists, engineers, and clinicians who believe that the future of medicine is precision at an individualized level. If you want to work on problems that matter at the frontier of genomics, AI, and quantum computing, this role is for you. ABOUT THE ROLE We are looking for a front-end-leaning Senior Full Stack Application Engineer to join our engineering team at a critical growth stage. Your primary focus will be designing and building intuitive, polished user interfaces — and working on them end-to-end, extending down into the APIs and data integrations against our Databricks/AWS back end that make those interfaces work. This is a hands-on role: most of your time will be spent on front-end architecture, interaction design, and UI implementation, with enough back-end depth to build the services your interfaces depend on rather than waiting on someone else. It’s a healthcare analytics platform, so clarity, performance, and compliance all matter in what you ship. This role is a priority hire given current team capacity — you’ll have real autonomy and visible impact from day one, working closely with the rest of the team rather than in isolation. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES Front End Design & Architecture (primary focus) Design and build user-facing features, with strong attention to usability, visual polish, and interaction design Set front-end architecture: component structure, state management, design system, and styling approach Architect creative, scalable front-end solutions rather than defaulting to boilerplate patterns Translate ambiguous product requirements into clean, functional UI, including wireframing and iterating on layouts before implementation Establish and maintain consistent UI patterns and accessibility standards across the application Ensure front-end performance and responsiveness across user types (e.g., clinical staff vs. internal ops) Back End & Data Integration (in support of the UI) Design and build the APIs that expose data from our Databricks environment (bronze/silver/gold medallion architecture) to front-end applications Integrate front-end applications with backend services running on AWS Work with Delta Lake / Unity Catalog data structures to determine the right data to surface, and how, to front-end consumers — shaping payloads around what the interface actually needs Handle authentication, authorization, and secure data access patterns for a HIPAA-regulated platform Cross-Cutting Responsibilities Work across features end-to-end: from data source, through API, to rendered UI Write clean, tested, maintainable code on both ends of the stack Collaborate with data engineering and DevOps to ensure front-end and back-end architecture stay aligned as the platform scales Document technical decisions clearly enough for a small, fast-moving team to stay in sync REQUIRED SKILLS & EXPERIENCE Front End (core requirement) Deep experience with modern JavaScript/TypeScript frameworks (React strongly preferred), including hooks, state management, and component architecture at scale A portfolio of production interfaces you designed as well as built — we will want to see the work Demonstrated ability to make front-end architecture and design decisions independently, not just implement specs Strong UI/UX instincts and comfort making design decisions in the absence of a dedicated designer Proficiency with modern CSS and styling systems, responsive layout, and cross-browser behavior Experience building responsive, production-grade web applications with real performance constraints Working knowledge of accessibility standards (WCAG) and how they shape component design Back End & Data Hands-on experience with Databricks (Delta Lake, Unity Catalog, medallion architecture) Experience with AWS services relevant to application backends (e.g., S3, Lambda/Fargate, API Gateway, IAM) Proven ability to design and build RESTful (or GraphQL) APIs that connect front-end applications to data platforms Understanding of secure API design, authentication (OAuth 2.0/JWT), and access control Practical experience building LLM-backed features — API integration, structured outputs, tool/function calling, retrieval, and context management, including the UI patterns for streaming and conversational interfaces Familiarity with the Model Context Protocol (MCP) and with agent frameworks such as LangGraph General 5+ years of full stack development experience with a clear center of gravity in front end, plus genuine back-end depth (not front-end-only with basic backend exposure) Working knowledge of HIPAA compliance requirements, including PHI handling, audit logging, and access control in both front-end and back-end contexts Strong communication skills — this role will require translating between data engineering, DevOps, and product priorities Self-directed; comfortable with ambiguity and competing priorities in a lean team TECHNICAL SKILLS SUMMARY Front End: JavaScript, TypeScript, React (hooks, state management, component architecture), modern CSS and styling systems, responsive layout, WCAG accessibility standards APIs & Security: RESTful and GraphQL APIs, OAuth 2.0/JWT, secure API design and access control Data/Cloud: Databricks (Delta Lake, Unity Catalog, medallion architecture), AWS (S3, Lambda/Fargate, API Gateway, IAM) AI/LLM: LLM APIs (structured outputs, tool/function calling, retrieval, context management), Model Context Protocol (MCP), LangGraph Design: Figma Compliance: HIPAA; SOC 2, GDPR, NIST NICE TO HAVE Prior experience at a healthcare, life sciences, or genomics company Experience with data visualization libraries for clinical or scientific data Experience with SOC 2, GDPR, or NIST compliance considerations as they touch application design WHAT WE OFFER Mission-driven work at the intersection of systems biology, causal AI, and quantum computing with direct patient impact Competitive compensation including base salary, performance bonus, and equity participation Access to state-of-the-art high-performance computing infrastructure including quantum computing Collaborative, intellectually rigorous environment — work alongside world-class scientists and clinicians Opportunity to publish, present, and shape the scientific direction of a growing precision medicine platform Full benefits: health, dental, vision; 401(k); flexible remote work EQUAL OPPORTUNITY EMPLOYER GNQ Insilico is an equal opportunity employer. We celebrate diversity and are committed to creating an inclusive environment for all employees.
