Role Overview

As a Senior Full Stack Engineer at brighthush, you will be the linchpin between our Customer Success team and the engineering organization. Your primary mission is to design, build, and maintain robust APIs and internal tools that streamline customer workflows, reduce friction, and elevate the overall experience. You’ll own end‑to‑end projects, from concept through deployment, and you’ll collaborate closely with product managers, designers, and customer success managers to translate business needs into scalable, maintainable code.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and maintain high‑performance RESTful and GraphQL APIs that power our customer success platform.
  • Integrate with third‑party services (e.g., payment gateways, analytics, CRM) to create seamless data flows.
  • Identify and resolve persistent bugs that impact customer satisfaction, using a combination of debugging, profiling, and automated testing.
  • Collaborate with Customer Success to surface pain points, propose technical solutions, and iterate on workflows.
  • Build and maintain internal tools that empower the CS team to manage tickets, track metrics, and automate repetitive tasks.
  • Own the full lifecycle of projects: requirements gathering, architecture design, coding, testing, deployment, and post‑launch monitoring.
  • Champion best practices in code quality, security, and performance across the stack.
  • Mentor junior engineers and foster a culture of knowledge sharing and continuous improvement.
  • Advocate for customer‑centric solutions in cross‑functional meetings, ensuring that engineering decisions align with business goals.
  • Stay current with emerging technologies and industry trends that can enhance our product and engineering processes.

Essential Qualifications

  • 6+ years of professional experience building web applications with Ruby on Rails, TypeScript, and React (including React Native).
  • Proven track record of designing, implementing, testing, and maintaining reliable backend services.
  • Experience owning projects from inception to production, including architecture decisions, code reviews, and deployment pipelines.
  • Strong understanding of API design principles, authentication/authorization flows, and data modeling.
  • Hands‑on experience with CI/CD pipelines, containerization (Docker), and cloud platforms.
  • Excellent communication skills—both technical and non‑technical—enabling you to articulate complex ideas to diverse stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated ability to work autonomously, prioritize tasks, and deliver high‑quality code on schedule.
  • Passion for improving customer experience, whether by fixing a bug or re‑architecting an entire workflow.
  • Experience working in a fast‑paced, bootstrapped environment where resources are limited but impact is high.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with GraphQL, Apollo Server, or similar technologies.
  • Knowledge of modern front‑end tooling (Webpack, Babel, ESLint, Prettier) and design systems.
  • Familiarity with performance monitoring tools and logging frameworks.
  • Background in customer success, product management, or UX design.
  • Contributions to open‑source projects or a strong personal portfolio.
  • Experience with Agile methodologies (Scrum, Kanban) and project management tools.

Skills & Competencies

  • Technical Expertise: Deep knowledge of Ruby on Rails, TypeScript, React, and modern web development practices.
  • API Mastery: Ability to design clean, scalable, and secure APIs that meet business and customer needs.
  • Problem‑Solving: Strong analytical skills to diagnose complex issues and devise elegant solutions.
  • Collaboration: Comfortable working with cross‑functional teams, translating business requirements into technical specifications.
  • Leadership: Experience mentoring junior engineers and driving technical excellence.
  • Adaptability: Thrives in a fast‑moving, high‑growth environment with evolving priorities.
  • Customer‑Obsessed: A genuine passion for improving the end‑user experience and reducing friction.
