Substation Protection and Control Engineer PE

Substation Protection and Control Engineer- PE Location: Fully Remote Compensation: $150,000–$175,000 annually We are seeking a Substation Protection and Control Engineer with 5+ years of experience to support transmission and distribution projects for utility and developer clients. This position combines hands-on design, client coordination, technical leadership, and mentorship.

Responsibilities

Develop protection and control designs for new substations and upgrades to existing facilities. Prepare and review one-line and three-line diagrams, AC/DC schematics, panel layouts, equipment wiring diagrams, and relay panel wiring. Work directly with clients to understand their standards, protection philosophies, and project requirements. Design substation SCADA communications systems. Perform AC/DC station service calculations, voltage drop calculations, and control and fiber-optic cable sizing. Review engineering calculations, construction drawings, and equipment specifications for quality and compliance. Mentor junior engineers and designers while delivering projects on time and within budget. Provide engineering support during construction, including site visits as needed. Qualifications 5+ years of direct substation protection and control design experience with a utility or consulting organization. Active U.S. Professional Engineer license, with the ability to obtain additional state licenses as needed. Strong knowledge of high-voltage substation protection, including line, transformer, breaker failure, differential, and communication-based protection schemes. Experience with substation SCADA communications, engineering calculations, and equipment specifications. Familiarity with Autodesk or Bentley CADD platforms. Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or a related engineering discipline. Strong communication skills and the ability to work independently while collaborating with a remote team.
