Trust and Safety Analyst
Our product helps millions navigate the often-frustrating job search process, and for most, it works exactly as intended. But a small, determined percentage of users attempt to exploit our systems for personal gain, whether that's through fraudulent applications, misrepresenting their credentials, or other policy violations. These actions erode trust, harm legitimate job seekers, and can even damage our relationships with recruiter partners. That's where you come in. We need a sharp, analytical mind to join our growing Trust and Safety team and help us proactively identify, investigate, and mitigate these risks. This isn't about simply banning accounts; it's about understanding complex patterns of behaviour, uncovering sophisticated fraud rings, and protecting the integrity of our platform. You'll be on the front lines, diving deep into user data to spot anomalies that automated systems might miss. Imagine tracing a series of interconnected accounts, all submitting identical, fabricated resumes for high-paying roles — you'll be the one piecing together that puzzle. What You'll Be Doing Day-to-Day You'll spend a significant portion of your time conducting detailed investigations. This means examining user activity logs, application submissions, and communication patterns. You'll use SQL to query our databases, pulling relevant information to build a clear picture of potential misconduct. We're looking for someone who enjoys the detective work involved in unravelling these cases, someone who can connect seemingly disparate data points into a coherent narrative. Another key aspect of this role involves policy enforcement. You'll apply our established guidelines to specific cases, making nuanced judgments about user intent and impact. This isn't always black and white, so the ability to articulate your reasoning clearly and consistently is crucial. You'll also contribute to refining these policies, drawing on your insights from investigations to suggest improvements that can make our platform safer and more robust. You'll be a critical voice in identifying emerging threats and vulnerabilities. As our product evolves and new types of fraud emerge, you'll help us anticipate and respond to them. This might involve anything from analysing patterns of content moderation violations to flagging suspicious surges in application volume from specific regions. Who You'll Work With You'll report to our Head of Trust and Safety and work closely with a small, dedicated team of analysts. We're a remote-first team spread across different time zones, so strong asynchronous communication skills are essential. You'll also collaborate frequently with our Product and Engineering teams, providing them with insights to build better detection tools and features. On occasion, you might interface with our Legal team regarding severe policy breaches. Your First Few Months During your initial weeks, you'll immerse yourself in our existing policies, tools, and data. We'll pair you with an experienced team member to guide you through our investigation workflows and introduce you to our data schema. You'll start by shadowing and then taking on increasingly complex cases, with plenty of support and feedback. Expect to get hands-on with SQL quickly, if you're not already proficient. You'll also get to know the specific types of fraud and abuse prevalent on our platform, helping you to develop a keen eye for suspicious activity. This role is critical for AIApply right now because our user base and application volume are growing rapidly. With this growth comes an increased attack surface for bad actors. Without a strong Trust and Safety function, the value we provide to legitimate job seekers and recruiters diminishes. You’ll be directly contributing to maintaining a safe and trustworthy environment for millions. Our Hiring Process We start with a brief chat with our recruiter, followed by an interview with the Head of Trust and Safety. If that goes well, there will be a practical exercise involving a real-world scenario (anonymised, of course) and a final interview with a few team members. We aim for a respectful and efficient process.
