C++ Backend Engineer - AI Data Platforms
C++ Backend Engineer — AI Data Platforms About The Role What if your expertise in high-performance C++ could directly shape the infrastructure that powers the world's most advanced AI systems? We're looking for a senior C++ engineer to design and build the data pipelines, annotation tooling, and evaluation infrastructure that leading AI labs depend on to train and validate next-generation models. This is a fully remote, flexible contract role for an experienced systems engineer who wants to do meaningful, high-impact work at the frontier of AI development. Organization: Alignerr Type: Hourly Contract Location: Remote Commitment: 20–40 hours/week
What You'll Do
Design, build, and optimize high-performance C++ systems that power AI data pipelines and evaluation workflows Develop backend services and tooling for large-scale data annotation, validation, and quality control Improve reliability, performance, and correctness across existing C++ codebases Identify bottlenecks and edge cases in data and system behavior, and implement scalable solutions Collaborate closely with data, research, and engineering teams to support model training and evaluation Participate in synchronous design reviews to iterate on system architecture and implementation decisions Who You Are 5+ years of professional experience writing production-grade C++ Strong background in asynchronous network programming — event loops, RPC frameworks, or high-performance microservices Experience working with high-throughput databases or message queues Native or fluent English speaker with clear written and verbal communication skills Able to commit 20–40 hours per week with consistency and reliability Self-directed and comfortable operating in fast-moving engineering environments
Nice to Have
Prior experience with data annotation, data quality pipelines, or evaluation systems Familiarity with AI/ML workflows, model training, or benchmarking infrastructure Experience with distributed systems architecture or developer tooling Background working alongside research teams or in AI-adjacent environments
Why Join Us
Work directly with leading AI labs on production systems that matter Fully remote — work from wherever you do your best work Flexible hours with meaningful, high-impact engineering challenges Contribute to the infrastructure that shapes how next-generation AI is built and evaluated Potential for ongoing work and contract extension as projects evolve
