Clinical Consulting Manager, Real-World Data & Evidence

Location: Remote

Type: Full-Time

About the Role

We are seeking a Clinical Consulting Manager to join our Real-World Data (RWD) consulting practice. This individual will bridge clinical domain expertise with data strategy, supporting business development efforts, driving the technical construction of codebooks, and contributing to the firm's thought leadership in real-world evidence (RWE) generation. The selected individual will report directly to Norstella’s Chief Medical Officer with adjacent accountability to Norstella’s Vice President, Head of Real-World Data Consulting supporting Norstella’s three consulting groups: Health Economics and Outcomes Research, Instant Health Data platform, and Commercial analytics consulting. This is an ideal role for a physician or pharmacist with early consulting experience who wants to apply their clinical training to solve complex problems in health outcomes research, data science, and life sciences strategy.

Key Responsibilities

Business Development & Client Engagement

  • Support proposal development, scoping calls, and client presentations by translating clinical and therapeutic area nuance into consulting deliverables
  • Partner with senior consultants and practice leads to identify new business opportunities within existing and prospective client accounts
  • Contribute clinical perspective to RFP responses, capability decks, and client-facing scientific narratives

Codebook & Data Dictionary Development

  • Lead and contribute to the creation, validation, and maintenance of codebooks and data dictionaries across claims, EHR, registry, and other real-world data sources
  • Translate clinical concepts (diagnoses, procedures, medications, lab values) into standardized coding logic (e.g., ICD-10, CPT, NDC, LOINC) for use in analytic datasets
  • Manage codebook and data dictionary workstreams using JIRA and related workflow tools, ensuring traceability, version control, and documentation standards are met
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with biostatisticians, data engineers, and epidemiologists to QC variable definitions and coding logic

Thought Leadership

  • Co-author white papers, blog posts, conference abstracts, and client-facing points of view on trends in RWD, health outcomes research, and commercial strategy
  • Represent the practice at industry conferences and webinars as needed
  • Monitor the regulatory and scientific landscape (e.g., FDA RWE guidance, payer evidence requirements) and translate implications for clients and internal teams

Qualifications

Required

  • MD or PharmD
  • 3–5 years of professional consulting experience following completion of clinical training (residency/fellowship or PharmD program)
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with demonstrated ability to translate clinical concepts for non-clinical audiences
  • Experience working within structured project management tools (e.g., JIRA, Confluence, Asana) in a team-based delivery environment
  • Comfort working with structured healthcare data concepts (claims, EHR, coding systems) even without a technical/programming background
  • Collaborate with data science and engineering teams to develop and refine database queries, data pipelines, and processing workflows, incorporating AI/ML methodologies for advanced analytics.
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills, with attention to detail and the ability to interpret complex healthcare data.

Preferred

  • Additional training or degree in Health Outcomes Research, Health Economics, Epidemiology, or Public Health (e.g., MPH, MS, fellowship in HEOR)
  • Prior exposure to real-world data sources (e.g., IQVIA, Optum, Komodo, Flatiron, claims databases)
  • Familiarity with common clinical coding taxonomies (ICD-10, CPT, HCPCS, NDC, LOINC, RxNorm)
  • Basic understanding of computational concepts in SQL, R, and Python
  • Publication or conference presentation experience

What Success Looks Like in This Role

  • Codebooks and data dictionaries are clinically sound, well-documented, and delivered on schedule via standardized workflow processes
  • Client engagements benefit from clear, credible clinical framing in proposals and deliverables
  • The manager becomes a recognized internal and external voice on clinical data standards and RWE methodology
