Criminal Defense Attorney - New York City X-Copper | New York, NY | Full-time Work Arrangement: Remote-first, with access to shared office space as needed. The Role: We’re looking for an experienced criminal defense lawyer who wants to build, grow, and lead a successful legal team. As X-Copper’s first New York attorney, you’ll initially practice law, represent clients facing criminal and traffic charges, and establish our presence in the New York market. But this role is ultimately about building and leading a high-performing team of attorneys, not practicing as an individual lawyer indefinitely. As the practice grows, your focus will shift toward recruiting, developing, and managing your team. Our centralized operations, marketing, and business development support will allow you to focus on legal work initially and build a successful practice for the long term. The role is remote-first, with shared office space available for use as needed during the initial stages of establishing the New York practice. We’re particularly interested in candidates who have already demonstrated success leading a team and are ready to take the next step in their careers. Your First Three Years Year 1 - Establish: Build a strong caseload, establish X-Copper’s reputation in New York, and lay the groundwork for growth. Year 2 - Build: Recruit and onboard your first attorneys, begin delegating casework, and develop a high-performing team. Year 3 - Lead: Focus primarily on team leadership and management, leading a team of 1-3 attorneys. Our goal is for you to spend the majority of your tenure leading and developing your team, rather than managing an individual caseload. What You’ll Bring Licensed to practice law in New York State and in good standing. At least 3 years of criminal defense experience; traffic law experience is an asset. Demonstrated success leading, managing, or developing a team. Strong courtroom skills, sound legal judgment, and a commitment to excellent client service. The ability to recruit, mentor, motivate, and hold people accountable. A genuine ambition to build and lead a successful legal practice, rather than focus exclusively on individual casework.
