Overview
We are seeking an experienced Senior Platform Engineer to design, build, and standardize enterprise CI/CD and cloud deployment capabilities across Harness, Google Cloud Platform (GCP), Apigee X, and Terraform. This role will be responsible for creating reusable pipeline and infrastructure patterns that enable application teams to deploy rapidly and consistently while maintaining enterprise security, governance, reliability, and compliance requirements. The ideal candidate combines deep hands-on engineering skills with a platform engineering mindset, creating reusable capabilities and self-service experiences rather than one-off application pipelines. What Successful Candidate Looks Like The successful candidate will help move the organization from application-specific deployment pipelines to a standardized, reusable platform model. The engineer will enable development teams to provision and deploy applications through approved self-service patterns while security, IAM, compliance, infrastructure provisioning, API deployment, and release governance are automated and consistently enforced.
Key Responsibilities
CI/CD & Harness Platform Engineering · Design and build reusable Harness Pipeline Templates, Stage Templates, and Step Templates to establish standardized enterprise deployment patterns. · Implement Pipeline-as-Code using YAML, Git-based version control, pull requests, and controlled promotion processes. · Develop automated governance and compliance controls using Open Policy Agent (OPA). · Embed security, quality, compliance, and operational controls directly into CI/CD pipelines. · Establish reusable pipeline patterns that can be consumed across multiple applications, environments, and engineering teams. · Develop and maintain standardized deployment strategies, including canary, blue/green, and controlled traffic-based releases. Developer Experience & Internal Developer Platform · Leverage Harness IDP to create developer self-service capabilities and standardized software delivery workflows. · Design onboarding experiences that allow development teams to quickly adopt approved CI/CD patterns. · Reduce developer effort and deployment complexity through reusable templates, automation, and paved-road deployment patterns. · Balance developer autonomy with enterprise requirements for security, governance, reliability, and operational consistency. · GCP Serverless Engineering · Design standardized CI/CD and deployment patterns for GCP Cloud Functions. · Implement consistent approaches for: o Environment configuration o Secrets management o Deployment promotion o Traffic splitting o Canary and blue/green deployments · Integrate GCP serverless deployments into reusable Harness delivery pipelines. · Apigee X & API Deployment Automation · Automate the deployment and promotion of Apigee X API proxies, bundles, policies, and environment configurations through CI/CD pipelines. · Integrate Apigee deployment capabilities into Harness pipelines. · Support automated provisioning and configuration across API management environments. · Utilize tools such as apigeecli and apigeectl, where appropriate, to automate API lifecycle activities. · Infrastructure as Code & Cloud Foundation · Design and develop reusable, modular Terraform components for cloud and platform infrastructure. · Automate provisioning and configuration of: o o Harness resources o o GCP service accounts o o IAM roles and permissions o o Supporting cloud infrastructure · Integrate Terraform workflows with enterprise CI/CD pipelines. · Apply infrastructure-as-code practices to improve repeatability, traceability, and environment consistency. · Security, IAM & DevSecOps Governance · Implement secure identity and access patterns using least-privilege principles. · Apply GCP security capabilities including: o Workload Identity Federation o Service Account Impersonation o Secure secrets management o Role-based IAM controls o Implement automated policy enforcement using Harness OPA and pipeline governance mechanisms. o Integrate automated linting, security scanning, vulnerability detection, compliance checks, and quality gates into deployment pipelines. Must Have Skills · Core CI/CD & Pipeline Engineering (w/Harness focus): · Hands-on experience creating reusable, modular Harness Pipeline Templates, Stage Templates, and Step Templates. · Deep knowledge of Harness OPA (Open Policy Agent) for automated governance, shift-left compliance, and pipeline enforcement. · Proficiency with Harness Pipeline-as-Code (YAML, Git-experience workflows, PR-based pipeline updates). Developer Experience & Standardization · Proficiency with Harness IDP and self-service workflows. · Experience designing standardized onboarding workflows that simplify deployment for developers without compromising security or reliability. · GCP Serverless & Application Architecture with GCP Cloud Functions · API Management & Integration (Apigee X) · Infrastructure as Code (IaC) & Cloud Foundation · GCP IAM & Security Best Practices · Enterprise Delivery & Enablement · Pattern Architecture & Governance Enterprise Enablement & Documentation · Create clear technical documentation, architecture patterns, migration guides, onboarding materials, and operational runbooks. · Partner with application and platform engineering teams to accelerate adoption of standardized deployment patterns. · Provide knowledge transfer and technical enablement to development teams. · Help establish enterprise engineering standards and governance for CI/CD, cloud deployment, APIs, and infrastructure automation. Required Qualifications · Strong hands-on experience implementing enterprise CI/CD and DevSecOps solutions. · Advanced experience with Harness, particularly reusable pipeline, stage, and step templates. · Experience implementing Harness OPA policies and automated pipeline governance. · Strong experience with Pipeline-as-Code, YAML, Git, and pull-request-based engineering workflows. · Experience implementing developer self-service capabilities using Harness IDP. · Hands-on experience deploying serverless applications in Google Cloud Platform, particularly Cloud Functions. · Experience with Apigee X, including API proxy and policy deployment automation. · Strong proficiency with Terraform and modular infrastructure-as-code development. · Strong understanding of GCP IAM, service accounts, Workload Identity Federation, and Service Account Impersonation. · Experience integrating security and vulnerability controls into CI/CD pipelines. · Strong documentation, technical communication, and knowledge-transfer skills. · Experience building an Internal Developer Platform (IDP) or enterprise developer platform. · Experience defining reusable "golden path" or paved-road deployment patterns. · Experience supporting large enterprise environments with multiple development teams and deployment environments. · Experience migrating development teams from legacy or independently managed CI/CD processes to standardized platform capabilities. · Familiarity with software supply-chain security, artifact management, policy-as-code, automated compliance, and DevSecOps practices.
