Call for Editor: Journal of Medical Biography

Journal of Medical Biography focuses on the lives of people in or
associated with medicine, those considered legendary as well as the less
well known. The journal includes much original research about figures
from history and their afflictions, thus providing an interesting, fresh and
new perspective which can lead to greater understanding of each subject.
Journal of Medical Biography is a fascinating and compelling read,
providing an insight into the origins of modern medicine and the
characters and personalities that made it what it is today.
The journal is indexed in MEDLINE and is published four times a year,
available in print and online at https://journals.sagepub.com/home/jmb.
General responsibilities of the editorship include:
• Leading on the strategic development of the Journal with a particular focus on maintaining and
improving quality and impact
• Managing the receipt and peer review of scholarly submissions, liaising with authors, and
responsibility for the selection of reviewers and revision of articles
• Encourage the submission of compelling academic research, with attention to early career
authors.
• Maintaining regular contact with SAGE and ensuring the delivery of copy according to agreed
production schedules.
• Managing and working in close liaison with the editorial board, ensuring board membership
reflects the varying interests and disciplines covered by the journal.
• Advocating for the journal among colleagues and potential authors, with promotional support
from SAGE.
The Publisher is seeking a 3-5 year initial commitment, to begin from January 2027. There is a modest
stipend associated with the role, paid per annum.
SAGE invites expressions of interest by 31st October 2026. Those interested in making an application
should send a brief CV, supported by a letter that outlines their experience and ability to perform the role.
Expressions should specifically address the applicants’ aims and vision for the Journal over the term of
editorship and demonstrate the ability to encourage and commission high-quality peer-reviewed content.
